The only thing I like about the EVGA model is the lifetime warranty. That could really come in handy. I want to go with a different cooler, though, hence the Gigabyte or MSI. I was looking at the Asus DirectCU II, but taking up 3 slots is not something I want to sign off on. I've got a GT430 running in an HTPC and that thing idles cooler than my CPU now at about 30C, so I guess they really fixed Fermi, but I still don't trust a big card to a dinky little stock cooler.

Gigabyte and MSI each offer 3 year warranties, which is fine for me considering the tradeoff between warranty and cooling/noise. Plus they look cool, which is always important.

Yea, idk I like the peace of mind with the lifetime warranty.

I agree with the peace of mind. But I still think I'd rather go for the aftermarket cooler. I want the quiet and cool they offer.

The lifetime warranty could come in handy though. Ditch the 580 in a couple years for the new card that supplants the 580 and ride the 580 into the ground folding on it. Then RMA it and get a nice new-model card? Sounds nice.

Unfortunately I went with BFG when I picked up my 285 (childhood obsession) and that bit me in the rear.

Good luck with the card though! Let me know how the stock cooler treats it!

The 8800GTS you have is great for Physx. Just throw the GTX 295 into your folding rig or you could try selling it here on the forums for around $150. IMO your best bet would be eBay/Craigslist.

Grats on your new purchase also.

Very nice. What are the temps like? PPD?

Temps are great,

OC'd to 900/1800/2000 and currently folding on it. During stress I hit 80c, sitting at 76-80 full load.

PPD is good around 17k-19k

Put the 295 in other computer, had to use 2 power supplies cuz of pin issues lol

But yea, i love it

the 6950 is the "it" card right now, if you can get two and unlock them to 6970s, you'll have more power than a 6990. Its been a while since I used amd/ati so I can't comment on the driver issues (which was one of the main reasons I went w/ nvidia), but I hear new one's are pretty good. good luck
