External Enclosure that doesn't need power adapter?

Thread Starter
Hey guys I've been looking around and it seems that the majority 2.5 external enclosure needs a power adapter. Is there any other there that doesn't require? I want something like my external hard drive by simply using the usb as both the data transfer and power.

This is for the 2.5 size

Thank you

Actually the majority of 2.5" enclosures are USB powered.

You sure you're looking at the right thing?

Yup, some have two USB 2.0 plug for additional power but usually not needed.

My cheap-o enclosures are all USB powered. Just go to the local computer store and take a look, I bet most if not all are USB powered.

Depends on the drive IME. The larger the capacity of the HDD, the less likely it'll be able to only need the 500mA@~5V of bus power USB2 can put out on one port.

so something like this will work?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-002-_-Product

on the back it looks like it has a power adapter plug in.

As you can tell I'm wanting to spend under 20 bucks for one.
