Help me choose some good WC parts

Thread Starter
Hello once again OCN.
This time i decided i will go straight from stock cooling to WC. I also considered Aircooling for my rig but as a modder i think WC looks a lot more better. So to go straight to the point this will be my FIRST watercooling experience and i will need some advice from some experts here. I wanna buy a small loop for cooling only the CPU(for now) which will include the 4 basic parts: cpu waterblock, radiator, pump, reservoir. Could u recommend me some good parts on the market in good prices? My budges is medium tight. Not too extreme, not too cheap. I also checked the XSPC Rasa and other ready WC kits on the market but most people say its better to go on a custom WC setup.

Those WC kits are custom WC setups. . . they just chose the most commonly used parts and put them together so that newbies to WC don't have to worry about getting barb sizes right, ID/OD correct, forgetting parts etc.

both the RASA kit and the Swiftech kits are good value for money with good blocks. (cheaper to buy the kit than to buy the parts separately. . . by a fair bit)

Well it really depends on what your goal is. If you just want to cool the CPU with a budget solution and make it semi quiet then go with some aftermarket kits like you've seen. Also they are virtually maintenance free so they would be possibly ideal for you.

If you want to overclock a bit and still stay on the cooler side then custom watercooling is what you want. The questions that we really need to know as a community to help you are the following:

How loud/soft do you want the sound to be coming from your rig?

How extreme does cooling need to be for your needs?

You kind of hinted at your budget, but depending on the two above questions the budget could easily range from around $125 - $250.

Give us a tad more info and we'll help even more!

Oh and another thing, this is your money we're talking about here!! You owe it to your pocketbook to get the best bang for your buck! (Which is why you are posting here I'm sure!)

Anyways, don't just take the things that you've heard as Gospel Truth. Instead do some googling and find some credible review sites and see what they say. That's what I do with literally EVERYTHING I purchase, from PC parts to the floormat that my chair rolls on.

To get you started Martin has a great fan review roundup Here.
And here's a nice radiator review also.

I hope those get you off to a good start in decision making for your components, I found those by just searching on the OCN forums.

Lastly if you have questions about what you are actually reading when you see those (Example: "What is static pressure and why is it important?", or "What's better more FPI on a rad or less?") then come back and ask us here and we'll be more than glad to help even more!

I hope that helped you!

I personally went with the Swiftech kit. Came with all the bits and pieces that I was wanting anyway (such as powerful pump and a good waterblock) with a very cost effective radiator. I ended up changing all the barbs to compressions as well as changing the tubing (tubing went cloudy although that may have been my fault for not cleaning the parts well enough to begin with - new tubing is crystal clear haha).

Came with everything I needed/wanted in one convenient box =]

Very easy to set up especially for my first water cooling system. Kit gave me confidence so that I can make a -truely custom- set up for my next system. No leaks whatsoever!

Mine was the <Swiftech H20-220-APEX ULTIMA> although I hear those XSPC Rasa kits are good value for money.

Hope this helps!
