Saying "Why is it the more options we have the more of a threat we become" is a generic fearful statment with no bearing on reality.
In reality, if many people started using this feature, the web would see less ad revenue to fund all the internets goodies as a whole and that affects everyone. No one should be afraid of more intelligently targeted ads.
The internet itself has been nominated for a Nobel peace prize. Ads paid for the internet that created that peace(like whats going on in Egypt and other nations especially), so yes in this case giving the people the option not to be tracked means less funding for that very same thing that created peace. IMO that is bad.
So if I had to answer your generic question "Why is it the more options we have the more of a threat we become?" Id have to say: Because this specific option threatens peace by cutting funding to one of its major propagators.
