Higher specs will change everything. They might even start using non-atrocious FOV on consoles.

lolwut

the average game buyer doesn't come from any country... the average game buyer just wants to play the game, and without experiencing playing the game on pc, they don't know what they are missing, and therefor don't care.

Let's say PCs somehow made up 60% of the market and the consoles made up 40%. The PCs can obviously handle anything the consoles can but not vice versa. Why go for 60% of the market when you can go for 100%?

MS and Sony are being extremely short sighted in attempting to maximize profits now, with the rate that mobile hardware and display tech is moving its entirely conceivable we can see games of superior quality on mobile platforms in less than a year - let alone 2014.

If they are not careful the mobile platforms and possibly the tablets will obliterate them.

30 FPS with a controller is fine, but not with a mouse lol

I really don't know. Seems like enough people buy or build pcs, as dell, hp are not doing too badly. Enough people are buying games for the PC to warrant market attention in the form of PC exclusives, or with perks for the PC. Consoles are NOT the dumbass' pc....they are built for a specific purpose which they serve quite well - they are dedicated gaming units, and so do not need the extra horsepower that a computer would need. It';s why the PS3/Xbox 360 does not need 4GB of RAM: in all honesty the PS4 or the Xbox III will not need anymore than 1GB of RAM.
Fixed.

I really do not see the need for new consoles by the end of 2012, with the exception of the Wii2. In reality, this is nintendo catching up with the rest of the 7th Gen, in terms of hardware;m maybe we can consider the Wii2 a 7.5Gen. From a business perspective, it makes no sense, especially from sony, to rush out new consoles - they need to eek out as much money as they can from the PS3 and Xbox 360 as they have invested a lot of money a lot of R and D into it. They have also got to talk to developers who will have to program for the console which is not easy for indie game developers. The console must also be prepared with AAA games available upon release. Furthermore it is of vital importance that the console is actually released when the company in question says they are going to release it. Otherwise, a lot of people are going to be disappointed when the big box they thought would be a shiny new console is just a big box full of disappointment.

The public will not expect anything less. Read: PS3 Fiasco.

But hey, if world will end in 2012, does it matter? /jk

Please... give the 720/PS4 8GB memory and a 6 core CPU so games will not be crippled just a few years after release. And add mandatory keyboard/mouse support for those who want it.

I wish honestly a 4th console would appear with very high specs. Thus making all consoles have to catch up and do to Wii 2, Xbox 720, PS4, and mystery console there would be not many sales on every console driving up prices and making PC gaming even more obvious for the serious gamer.

But I say Xbox 720 needs a full 1GB GPU memory, at least 6GB memory, and a 8-12 thread CPU IMO.

No offense, but if you look at the roadmap for AMD or Intel, we're looking at a tripling in performance AT BEST in the desktop hardware we have in the next couple years. Which is going to still be the top performer.

Even if mobile tech tripled in performance (in less than a year... how farfetched an idea you have spun), we still wouldn't see the quality of a current gen gaming platform.

Now, I could see mobile platforms advancing quite quickly... but definitely not at the rate which you're suggesting.

I full-heartedly agree in some respects. Just 4GB would be fine though; no need for 6GB lol. I mean, more is always welcomed? All I want is enough RAM to warrant 64-bit programming, which will make console-to-pc ports and vice-versa very simple... and also looking nicer. With more RAM, we'll see more expansive and awesome games.
