What big name games...use how many cores, hyperthreading type stuff - Page 2

Any quad core, with the exception of the Phenom 1 as those things would struggle to outrun a Pentium D, will run any game available for PC these days more than adequately. You'll hit your framerate cap on a physics standpoint unless you're playing a tech demo thinly veiled as a game.

Oh, and temps are not an accurate measure of how many cores are active. 'Far as heat goes, all four cores at 25% capacity = two cores at 50% capacity = one core at 100%. Throw up Task Manager and watch the graph, that will tell you how many cores are being used and how much of those cores is actually proving useful.

Why don't most games use all four cores? Too hard? If they did wouldn't 2GHz be enough?

It depends very much on the architecture of the game. It is very easy to make multi-threaded applications, if you know how

BFBC2 and Batman AA are 2 I have that use more then 2 cores. BC2 is dramatic, I got a 20fps boost going from 2 cores at 4Ghz to 4 cores at 3.5Ghz.

Just started playing "The Witcher" and almost choked when I saw it only uses 1 core!!! UGH

No word on the actual speed of bulldozer since it hasn't been released yet, but the number of cores is going to be much more beneficial to those who do rendering and the like.
<4 threads/cores, sorry to edit. BFBC2 loves 4 cores ( or it did at launch) and so does BLOPS. I have yet to see anything other than Crysis that benefits much over 3.8 GHZ on an i7.

You would be dead wrong. Keep in mind HT on a quad is useless in games right now, but not on the i3's/dual core i5's.

If it utilizes 16 threads, it utilizes 16 cores too. The "thread" misconception..
