PC and console ports: Besides Graphics, Advantages of PC gaming is dwindling - Page 2

I'd say the advantages of PC gaming are still pretty much the same as they've always been.

Trollolol. Seriously If you cant see the difference between an X360 and a PC instantly your probably in the wrong place.

Vote with your dollars and purchase games that allow modding or provide tools to do so. Despite Bethesda's catering toward console gamers lately, they are still including their mod kit for Skyrim when it releases. They know it helps sell their game.

Most PC games are still cheaper than console alternatives.

The tool to get mouse/keyboard use on a 360 costs a pretty penny. The PS3 has a cheaper alternative though.

As I said, purchase games that make the most of the PC and avoid the garbage ports. That's about all we can do at this point.

Which ones?

Most of the ones I see come out on xbox have the host as the 'server' basically and you still have to PAY money on top of that, for xbox anyway which is somehow more popular than ps3 :/

Not to mention the fact since the platform is also more affordable you seemingly have more younger kids playing and when they play online they suddenly become internet tough guys and do whatever they want, no thank you.

Not sure if it has been said already but any long term successful online game CAN'T go without dedicated servers. Dedicated servers alone make online games two times better since you have WAY more choice and variety, the possibility to mod things server-side and don't have to depend on the publisher's servers and for how long they feel like not shutting them down. I cringe when I see the slow death of dedicated servers with the rise of console shooters.

Just read this and I HAVE to disagree. The ONLY genres that profit from controllers are fighters with their arcade sticks, flight simulators with a joystick and racing simulators with a wheel and pedals. And either of these inputs is available on consoles and PCs alike (unlike some of the games they are catering which isn't point of this discussion though). Apart from these pretty much everything works better with keyboard and mouse.

I have alwasy been a console gamer, and just recently got the itch to switch to PC. It is more fun with the system and modification of the system you can do and make it look really nice and run great, but it is so much more expensive that it is not attainable for your average gamer. I see parents and kids crying about spending 200 bucks on a new xbox or 300 on a PS3. How in the world do the devs expect parents to give little Johnny over a grand to build a solid PC for games like crysis and then the BF3? They cant and they wont. The facts are that there are more console gamers out there so the devs and publishers go where the money is and that mean cross platform titles. You will continue to see a generall decline in dedicated PC games since prices of new hardware just keep going up for the good stuff. I have every console and a great PC so I am stacked and ready for any game. Most cant do this. It does suck that gmes like BF3 will not be totally dedicated to PC, and designed accordingly. It will be dumbed down and waterd down somewhat for the consoles. Console have too much limitation to them to handle it.

I just hope that the final version of BF3 for PC has a few extras and bonuses with gameplay and graphics that will make it all ok. They can favor the PC's it is ok to do it. Xbox is favored when it comes to DLC's. They always get them first it seems, so it is ok for Dice and EA to favor the PC.

Totally agree, and that is the big down side to most console games like COD, MOH, and Homefront. They really dont have dedicated servers. The hosting is awful in most cases unless you live in an area of the world that has fiber optic internet with 50up/50down speeds. My crap ISP is always an issue when it comes to being the host or when playing off anothers connection that is even worse than mine.

Agreed, while the whole p2p gaming is improving I still get the occasional lag on the ps3 when playing cod4. I really like the built in wireless with the ps3 slim though.

And there are more glitchers and hackers on the console from what I hear these days. On the pc in moh for example I would be usually #1 as far as kills and points go, but now on the ps3, my k/d is usually .5 - not sure if it's getting use to the ps3 controller versus the mouse because it is a bit more difficult, or if guys are hacking.

No matter how restricted a game is, PC gamers will find a way to modify even the simplest things, this is what gives me hope, IMHO, GTA 4 is a perfect example, no mod support what so ever, every patch broke mods, but they kept trucking along, and GTA 4 modded is fun as hell.
