[Engadget] Virgin Media to test 1.5Gbps broadband on London's Silicon Roundabout

Just last week we reported on Fujitsu's plans to get in on the gigabit broadband game, and now Virgin Media is taking things a step further by announcing its intention to test internet speeds up to 1.5Gbps in east London. The trial, which plans to deliver upload speeds of 150Mbps, uses a similar fiber optic setup as the one employed by Fujitsu, and targets multimedia companies near the junction of the city's Old Street and City Road, also referred to as the Silicon Roundabout. These tests have been made possible by a £13 billion investment from Virgin Media.
Source.

Hopefully one day these speeds will make it into our homes! (and I have no doubt that they will)

Just a shame this won't be of any use to us as consumers.

Yet.

Comment thread about the girl and the virgin logo (ctrl-f -> Super HD) had me laughing hard.

On-topic: If my current experience is anything to go by, when it reaches consumers, the only way to actually hit that speed would be to sit your computer 2 inches from the coax line and skip the modem/router altogether.

Canada needs to wake up and take an example from this. However I doubt that will happen due to the current Duopoly enforced.

Great, so it will be about 10 years before I get that knowing how the UK works. Then again I do live in the middle of nowhere.

BUT the only problem with Virgin is that the support the Digital Britain act .

Just Googled the Digital Britain Act, and it seems like the sort of thing I don't like...
