Chair Shopping Time!

Thread Starter
It's chair shopping time! Who doesn't like shopping for chairs. Anyways (to the original purpose of this thread), I'm looking for a fabric chair that's comfortable. I don't have intense body heat which is why mesh isn't on the list (although I do like mesh). I don't like leather because it's easy to damage and most leather chairs that I've tried are all awkwardly hard. I also discourage false leather chairs (I just don't like leather at all). I've been only looking at Staples right now. I might buy from OfficeMax if they ship directly to your house because I haven't seen an OfficeMax within miles of where I live. Anyways, I've found two chairs I found nice.

http://www.staples.com/Comfort-Produ...product_855661
http://www.staples.com/Staples-Valer...product_796525

The second one is very soft. The velvet cloth is also very comfortable. I sat on that chair for about 1 hour before walking around and looking for things at Staples. It's the best chair I've ever sat on in my entire life so far. Any suggestions?

The first one is very similar to what I have. Mines in leather and it's lasted almost a year now. I'd go with that one

If you like the second one so much I don't see any reason to hesitate, unless you can shop around and find it cheaper.

I'm just trying to find a larger range of products I can pick from. I don't know every chair on the market. As much as I like chairs for their comfortableness and other things, I don't know them too well.

Edit: It kind of sounds funny the way I put it .

Well it didn't seem to ever get much discussion the few other times I have tried to point it out but I prefer

. The cushioning will never flatten and you're kind of indirectly encouraged to stay active as you sit there and bounce up and down. I've been using one since around January and I actually like it quite a lot.

I'm getting ready to setup my home office, and I looked at one of those ball chairs, but the thing is, I work thirteen hours a night for my shift. No breaks or lunch (though I do get up and stretch and eat of course) so I spend a majority of the time in the chair. I don't see that ball chair being very comfortable for long hours, especially since I'm normally watching a show or reading something, not actively engaged with the computer. I prefer to just sit back and relax while enjoying media.

But I will not dismiss it without some consideration. How comfortable is it for you when used for several hours? Am I correct in assuming there is no real way to "kick back and relax" in this? I know that these are supposed to help with back and posture (or something along those lines) which god knows I could use help with, but I've got bad knees as well. Does this style of chair put a lot of stress on the knees? It would seem you have to stabilize yourself a lot more.

Thanks for any insight you can provide, even if I don't get one, I may get one for my wife who is rarely at the computer for more than a hour, and could use all the help she can get for her slipped disc in her back.

I should probably confess I don't actually have that particular "chair adapter" in the link. I am 6'2" and I forget the size of my particular ball (the largest they have I believe) but either they don't have the chair things for that size or they're too expensive i forget which. I just thought I'd suggest the chair back thing in case rolling away would be an issue or if the chair-like-form was an important factor...

As for the other stuff I probably shouldn't make any comment medical related. I have spent hours at a time on my ball perfectly fine. I also have bad posture.

I mostly got mine because I either didn't have time or the weather always seemed bad to actually exercise so I figured the ball would be a way to at least sit there and bounce and burn at least a couple calories when i would other wise not be burning anything.

I think "kicking back" would be challenge but that was the point to me: to get some kind of activity during otherwise idle time, hoping my "muffin top" would some day thank me.

And I have issues with flattening out the padding in any chair I use for a long length of time so this effectively fixes that.

You mentioned this is for work...or perhaps you work at home... in any case the balls are relatively cheap so you could try it out a couple hours at a time once or twice a week and see how you like it. No need to make a commitment. Right?
