Just finished my first build!

After weeks of patiently waiting (hoping the already purchased hardware didn't expire by the time I purchased it all, I finished my build today! It has the following specs:

1) Dragon Rider Case
2) i7 2600k <--Amazing
3) 8Gb (2x4Gb) Ripjaws 2133Mhz
4) GeForce 8600GT <-- Bottleneck, I know
5) 3 Sata HD's from my previous computer
^) Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit

So I know the video card is a bottleneck, but I bought what I had to to "boot" and used the previous parts (Sata drives, videocard) to save a few hundred bucks initially. I plan on upping the video card soon. But I cannot believe what an improvement this is! My old Intel Dual Core E2160 (1.8Ghz) could encode video at roughly 30fps in Handbrake. I tried it just now...same video, average of 200fps! That's stock!

I am going to wait until I get a better cooler before I overclock, but I plan on taking some pictures once I get everything set. I tried my best to "cable manage"......eek

So yes, my very first build, I think I did quite well. There was a point when I got a bit frustrated because it wouldn't turn on, but I figured it out...no biggie

Help! I'm not sure what the exact cause is, but in using Ubuntu I occasionally get freezes and random program restarts. I just installed a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 once building, thinking it'd be best. I fear perhaps my 600w PSU isn't enough. I really don't know what else it could be. Right now I'm writing a paper for school, afterwords I'll try a memory test in the BIOS.

Let it be noted that it seems to only have problems with things get "intense". For example, when I'm just typing my paper, it is fine. However, I tried an encode test a while back while listening to music, and although the encode started out at 200fps+, well the entire system froze with no response. I had to hit the restart button on my case.

Is there anything else I should check? Or am I pretty much as the mercy of my 600w PSU? IF it were to end up being not enough power, is it going to hurt anything while I'm using it right now?

Also, I noticed on boot (while booting) that Ubuntu gave me a "Too many connections" message. I googled this, and it seems a lot of people running Ubuntu with newer motherboards get this message.
