2500k overclock core temp variance: 72/91/90/83

im sure it has something to do with the fact that this prime run was done at 4.7ghz@1.4v on air, but is there another reason than the temperatures vary so much?

is there something i can do to fix it?

try re-seating your heatsink. my temps on my 2600k vary as well. my core 0 is like -5-10C diff from my core 1 which ends up being the highest by +5C from core 2 and 3. werid, but i believe it's the temp sensor that is reading wrong. i tried re-seating and it didn't do anything for me, but it doesn't hurt to try.

My first core is 10c lower than the rest too, I finally got around to remounting my SA a few days ago and it's still exactly the same My friends 2500K is the same too.

72/91 seems a little much though, I'd definitely try a re-seat.

definitely re seat, those look to far apart

as others have said, a reseat might help.

If you reseat, turn cooler 90 degreees from present mount position and see if temp location changes.

From 72/91/90/83 present
To....83/72/91/90 or similar after rotating & tightening.

If it does it might be uneven cpu/heatsink surface.
or try this application method on TIM @cpu cooler>

http://www.innovationcooling.com/app...structions.htm

20 degrees is a lot difference between cores

ok, well i checked again, and i was reading it wrong... so i thought.

i actually had "temp 1" checked on the temp graph as well. so speedfan gives me all decent temps.

but i was reading about using aida64, so i tried it. and it gave me completely different readings. it had all cores way higher... all around the same temp as that "temp 1" reading.

what the hell am i supposed to believe???

well, i reseated and put on new fans. i had some slow "quiet" fans. i now have higher cfm fans on. helps a little. but im going to leave it for now.

and i just got the cpu, but yes, itll be 24/7. but i dont live with prime running. while gaming or converting videos, it only gets in the 50's. other than prime, there isnt one thing that will max out the system 100% like that, that i run.

From what I can tell, "Temperature 1" is probably simply the temperature of the hottest CPU. In HWinfo32, "CPU Package" seems to be the temp of the hotttest core, although the temp may vary by a whopping 1C.
But "Temperature 3" is clearly the CPU temp as measured by the motherboard itself. And this temp is up to 10C lower (at hotter temps) than the core temp readings.

You're probably better off using HWinfo32 to see what the actual temps correspond to.. Speedfan simply doesn't have the right labels. Although that "temperature 3" isn't labeled intuitively in hwinfo either, but it's pretty obvious what it is.
