Short answer: Yes.

An i3 530 should surpass 4Ghz as well. I'd shoot for 4.4Ghz, but that's just me wink.gif

You may see higher framerates with higher-end processors depending on the game/application, but it won't be a significant bottleneck for such a system.

An I3 530 at 4.0ghz will easily handle SLI 460's. I had an I3 540 system that I built for someone running at that exact speed with GTX 470's and no bottleneck occured. I talked the owner into letting me push the 540 to 4.3 ghz which is so easy with these superb chips. I wish Sandy Bridge I3 chips were as good!

Well I was considering grabbing this:
http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellShocker.aspx?cm_sp=ShellShocker-_-13-131-599-_-04202011

Then an i3. Probably a GTX 460 shortly after along with a new PSU before I get a quad. Just wanna switch off this dirty AMD system and get back with Intel... but don't want to spend $400 switching to Sandy Bridge and have nothing left over if the i3 can hold me off just fine for a while.

Think I'd regret getting the i3 over an i5 2500k for the SLI GTX 460s? I plan on playing the same games I am right now in about a year, except BF3, I'll be playing that.

Currently I'm playing BF BC2, APB:Reloaded, and Age of Conan regularly.

Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone. Still considering what to do but am leaning on doing this. I really don't see myself needing more than 1156 for a while, especially with the OC ability.
