Issues Overclocking AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition

Ok, I am having issues getting my CPU overclocked very high, well actually quite a bit lower then what most people have done with my exact same processor. So far I can only get my CPU multiplier to 18.5, and that runs fine, topping out with a TEMP of about 48 Degrees while under an 8 hour stress test focusing almost entirely on the processor itself. I also only have my CPU Voltage at about +0.050 which may be the problem, sorry if i am a little slow, this is the first overclock i have done even though I have been working with computers for several years, I am a software guru, and i hate hardware lol

I see that the chip is indeed the RB-C2 stepping of the chip which has a harder time OC'ing but not much, what cpu cooler are you using? And also .05 of a volt is not much you need to step up to .1v but again the main question is what cooler are you running 48c is not bad but its just about 10c away from becoming unstable.

stock cooler will not let you overclock much

idle temps might be fine, but under load it will overheat

check what cpuz shows the core voltage at
1.2-1.55v are safe if the temps stay under 62c, 55max for stability

more core voltage = more stability and higher temps

Well my cooling is good, i will have to wait till I get home to tell you my fan, it's was the best one available when i got it last year. And that 48 degrees was the highest I have been able get it, i was using prime9 running the stress test that focused on only Processor. It's normal heat when im playing a game is maybe 38-40 degrees, that is playing Dragon Age 2. I think it only gets to 40 degrees when I'm converting videos for a long time, which uses about 90-100% CPU.

When I get home ill up my voltage and see if i can get my multiplier up to 19 or 19.5, i wasn't sure if it was my voltage that was the problem, but being new i was being cautious with the voltage as not to harm the hardware.

I've got the same chip and the highest overclock I've managed from just the multiplier is 3.8GHz at 1.5v on the core. I'm gonna do a few runs messing with the FSB to see if I can't hit the 4GHz mark.

I'm running the Xigmatek Loki and it hits 47*C after the overclock on full load.

I found quiet a few people getting to 4.0 overclocks, granted I am not gonna do that because my CPU case isn't good enough to cool that, but I think i should be able to get to 3.8 or 3.9 Actually i got the same motherboard, Memory, and Processor as a guy who got it running nice and steady at 4.0, he was actually the person who recommended my this build as i was tight on cash when i made this build.

Nice, mine is 48 degrees on a full load after a few hours, my comp is stuffed in a corner so the ventilation sucks on it, gotta move it to a more ventilated area if I am gunna get it at 3.9 or 4.0

Are your temps from stock speeds or overclocked? I ask because after the overclock my temps are lower than yours are.

Mine are overlock speeds, that 48 degrees is at 18.5 multiplier, running full load.

That's what I was hoping for. I would be a bit more careful with voltage. Try to not go above 1.525v as the maximum is 1.55v and it's just unsafe for 24/7 usage.

So far I can only get my CPU multiplier to 18.5, and that runs fine, topping out with a TEMP of about 48 Degrees while under an 8 hour stress test focusing almost entirely on the processor itself. I also only have my CPU Voltage at about +0.050 which may be the problem, sorry if i am a little slow, this is the first overclock i have done even though I have been working with computers for several years, I am a software guru, and i hate hardware lol
