Sli temp question (480's)

Thread Starter
Just put in a second 480 for some extra firepower and had a quick temp question.

Are these good temps for my current setup? (I wonder how many times that's been asked before XD)

It's...probably 80 degrees in here, and ive been hitting up crysis 2 and portal 2 for a good portion of the day nonstop.

Not bad at all. Those are great temps for a SLI 480 setup. Just make sure no card gets over 100C, and you should be good.

They are gonna get super toasty..just the way of the land in a 480 SLI with no spacing, aftermarket cooling, or water..just crank up the AC

Your avatar is proper, btw.

yea, that's the problem with my setup is that the only available slot is, for one an 8x, and right under the first 480, the others are 4x and 8x which would make me move the psu to the top of the case if i wanted spacing without replacing boards. either way 73c max is pretty good I guess.

Yea I was running SLI 6950's in Slot 1 & 2 in a HAF 932 before I upgraded..I feel your pain.

In order to run Slot 1 & 3 for me I needed to top mount PSU, and even then the triple slot AXP coolers wouldn't fit..HAF X was the solution

If you are maxing out at 73c then you are in really good shape..they usually get a lot hotter than that, but maybe that is just in Furmark and benches.

I think so, I'm not an avid bencher, I prefere just relying on games and things I can actually interact with to heat them up

and having a fan profile that hits 100% at 90c helps too *cough*

it gets pretty loud.. but I cant hear them in game anyways.

well anything below 100 Deg C is fine...

and you are below 80 Deg C...

which is pretty good for any SLI setup with stock cooling...

so i wouldn't worry about it to much...

also... so much for 480s being ultra hot

Are these temps with V sync on? Try turning v sync off and see if they go higher.

73C max for top card and 67C max for the bottom card are bloody good!
Not only the max number is good but also the difference (6C) between the 2 cards is also good. It must be due to your using 2 fans (next to the HDD cage) blowing much air to the cards.

If you wish to further lower the temp of the top card, try this trick:-
Connect your Samsung P2450 to the lower card instead of to the top card. This will make the lower card the 'primary' card (of the SLI setup) which works just a tiny bit harder than than the 'slave' card. This just may decrease the top card by a couple degrees more. No promise but no hurt to try.
