I vote for the G.1 assassin and i7 970.

But if you absolutely must have an sb rig, get a 2500k and a ud7 with all those 24 delicious phases.

( just my opinion) 1366 is still a supported socket do some research!! Because, i know for a fact if i posted a thread saying im buildng a computer and stated my needs as clearly needing a 6 core , people would still recommend me something i dont need ( like in your case a 2600k ) because its newer and thats all people recommend on here till something else comes out!!!

+++ on this post....
Soo true, people just spout off cpu's based on what they use the computer for. There are clear advantages to a 970/980/990, in rendering and multi tasking they are the best cpu's on the market..

CAD can easily load up a HT quad, the 970 not only gives you 2 more cores, they are HT cores so in essence for CAD it is adding 4 more processor threads. 6 cores/12 threads
Nothing wrong with the 2600k, its a great cpu, overclocks easily and runs cool, etc...

Toms Desktop CPU Chart 2010 - 970 & 2600k

Im just suggesting as a multi tasker, your CAD rendering is going to take a toll on any cpu.

Get the 970. you will gain performance in multi tasking without loosing much in gaming

I'll go the 990X... I've been swayed... lets see how hard we can OC this *****!

The new build:

CPU: I7 990X Extreme
HDD: Vertex 2 240GB (OSD & Programs)
HDD: 2TB 7200 Seagate (Storage)
GPU 1: Nvidia GeForce GTX 580
GPU 2: Nvidia GeForce GTX 580
RAM: 24GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600mhz
Mobo: Gigabyte G.1 Assassin
Sound Card: X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Champion
Optical: Samsung Bluray 10x Writer/Reader
PSU: 1200Watt Silverstone
Screen: HP ZR30w
Cooling: Watercooling for the CPU (Can't find where to buy the asetek 570?? =S)

Yeah, the Ram is very much overkill, but its fairly cheap so I figure why not biggrin.gif

Still unsure of a case... leaning towards a Lian Li PC-A71F. Not a fan of big colourfull breathing machines.

I might look into laser etching an image into the side of the case or something though... will see, seeing as I have access to a laser cutter I might be able to do something cool, lol.

Any other ideas for a case? Preferably not plastic...

I like the HAF series, pretty simple, great airflow, silent.

My PSU makes the most noise in my system, its the only noisey fan I cant seem to rid Myself of..

Just curious. why are you choosing the G1 Assasin?
Great board for sure, but rather pricey for features you dont seem to need. And if you get it the onboard sound is just as good as a high end sound card, so you wont need that...

IMO an Asus Rampage III Formula/Extreme, Gigabyte X58 UD7/ UD9, Or EVGA X58 SLI3/ Classified would suite your needs just fine for about $200 less that you could use somewhere else...

FYI, your budget is 4k for system and 1k for screen, you have already blown that budget...

I just added it to a cart via newegg, at $5,079 and havent added a case, HDD or DVD drive yet..

Unless you have some of the items you may want to reconsider a few items to fit your budget

But you see my problem? Short of plugging these cans directly into the city power grid I haven't found anything which isn't a standalone amp to power them.

To give people an idea who don't have headphones like this, put your earphones on, crank your ipod to half volume... thats the equivalent volume to having the ipod at full volume with the K701s, and the louder you go, the more and more power you need, its not a perfectly linear power curve relative to sound, lol =[

I went the G.1 as it was recommended, no-body went against it and it has a boat load of 3.0 USB connections. I did notice the Xfi already on it, but was researching to try and find the power output of the two, so I just posted up in the mean time.

@ 10acjed; I have it in a cart too, at the moment its at 3300 without hdd's or screen... I have the HDD's and screen, well I'll pay what I need to for it. Its not a strict budget either, just a guideline of whereabouts I want to be. You might have added something by mistake, definitely under budget as it stands =] OR.. Maybe I missed something? =S Screenshot the cart for you. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii204/s12Blaze182/lol.png

Dude, IMO, You'll need an amp to drive your K701 properly, the Sound card wont do the job, even if its a good one, they just don't have enough power. By the way, give the "asus xonar essence xt" a look, its one of the best audiophile grade sound cards in the market. You could use the xonar as a nice DAC and preamp, and also get an amp, if you are interested, pm me and I could help you choosing one!
