The Ivy Bridge is still an 1155 chip but requires a new board all together? Thats a bit dodgy!

Don't tempt me with dual cpus =P Water-cooling two CPU's could be tricky though!!!

Does Nvidia Cuda work at all? I've read nvidias site on what its suppose to do, but can you actually offload rendering to the gpu cores entirely? (Remember, I've been a red devil for a long time!!)

Ivy is LGA 2011, new socket.
Water-cooling shouldn't really be that much trickier.
Sorry wouldn't know, been using FIREPRO ati workstation cards.

There will be 1155 Ivy's, however some features will not be available on current 1155 boards.
Its possible the z68 will allow the features.

As far as hexacore Ivy Bridge, that will be exclusive to the 2011 socket from what I have read. Still about 9 months away I believe...

Personally I would not recommend buying the first release unless you have the money to burn, chances are a rev will be out in the first 6 months that will be better, B3 for SB, the 45nm quads went from C1 to E0 etc. Also the price drops quick, first 2 months is pretty high.

Just my opinion on it.. If you dont mind waiting, just wait. IB & BD should be fairly good cpu lines.. Not sure what your using now..

Hmm. After some more research, I'm going to go with the 2600k.

I only ever render hour long projects a couple times every ~3 months... in terms of every day use the 2600k will probably be a little better.

At the end of the day they're both good chips, but again, with the Extreme edition upcoming next year, it gives me some flexibility if this chip were ever to be found needing.

Which do people think is better?
The lian li A71F, or the Armoursuit Lian Li PC-P80?

Also, you wouldn't happen to know where I could buy this ram from, that ships to Aus? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231465

I'll submit my final build shortly, just confirming a couple of pricing things, etc. to see what your thoughts are =]... Who knows, might even do a build log =D

Almost strange really, 590s are awful gpus. And for autodesk rendering you can never go wrong with workstation cards, yet I see a devoid of anything workstation related.

H70 is a shoddy cooling unit, and there are other "qualms" with this build.

What exactly do you plan on rendering?

Here is a few build suggestions. This is a pure rendering farm per se. I went with ATI since Quadro gives like a 1/2 performance for same price. This is out of budget a bit, not too much. May have to settle for a used 2007wfp from Dell. Same great IPS panel at 2560x 1600, just slightly older

- Lian Li HPTX v2120b
- Rosewill Lightning (a recommend PSU and a good one at that, a bit flashy) 1000w
- Gskill Pi Cas 7 Hexa Channel 12 gb
- ATI Fire Pro v7800 2gb. Its basically a 5850, but a boss 5850. Makes renders great, depending on the program you use, makes rendering times faster
- Noctua NHD14. Best air cooler, well besides the Silver Arrow. IF you want water cooling, I can fix that too and not some shoddy H70 AIO unit either
- Intel Xeon x5650. Bet I'm gonna get a lot of slack for this. ohboy. I wanna see a 4.3ghz 12 core server go up against some 4 core 5ghz (remember not all of them go that high) in rendering times.
- Spin Point F3 Raid x 1
- EVGA SR2. I could probably go with a supermicro or Tan or asus board, but this is best for OCing, which would help decrease rendering times.

This is a gaming build with rendering built in. It utilizes SB tech.
This build is in budget
I acknowledge you could go for a cheaper render farm with 590s, except they can't clock for their lives. But 580s are more expensive but better for gaming. I chose not to go tri-sli as these are MSI lightning and you game often, more so than you render. MSI lightning has more phases for better voltage regulation, and with proper cooling, results in insane overclocks. Look at all previous generations (especially the gtx 275 lightning) and look at how they did under water. For the cost it seems you could get 4 x 580s (but quad sli is imperfect) or go with something like tri 580, best solution, but then psu costs more and 580 and WC solution increases in price. This is the middle road. Truly you should get the 6970s, but those are strictly gaming, unless rendering clients have adapted to consumer ATI tech.

This is a well rounded build, spacious with an SSD with great read write, powerful yet quiet with watercooling. And you should expect insane clocks on all components. With the ud7, you get 24 phases! I already explained the lightning. And the ram is just plain old ram, nothing fancy. OC it for headroom, but it shouldn't be a big deal. I'd actually switch it out for some 8gb but I forgot. The mountainmods case is quite simply mind blowing, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it for years to come.

DO apologize ahead of time, some components like your osund card maybe .
missing. But all components are quite compatible.

These are some good example builds, from high rendering to high gaming. Not to say the gaming build will not render well, not in the slightest. I'm not sure how core clocks are affected in gpu rendering, but you should easily get atleast a 20% oc on the lightning cards. and dual sli for gf110 is near 100% scaling vs quad or tri.

You wouldn't believe it, but I saw this post 1 minute after it had been made... its taken me three hours to try and find the parts listed!!

With regard to the second rig, which I'd look at seriously, I can get all the cooling components, and case, and most of the electronic components.

Heres the problematics:

I cannot get the 580GTX MSI Lightning cards, nor can I get the 16 Extreme Silent fans. Is there a viable supplement? Or a place which ships to Australia that I don't know about?

Was I suppose to opt for the Seasonic PSU in this build, or the Rosewill Lightning-1000?

P.S... I put my Asus Xonar Essence card in the build

Will all this fit? 2 GTX, 1 Xonar, 1 Revo drive..??

@Rockerdelmal: Yeah! I got your PM!!! Been looking over the amps, one of them is hideously ugly =P So far I'm liking the Matrix M Stage and the Heed - just need to get this build sorted before I move on to the amp
