Why play games on PC over console? - Page 7

It works out cheaper in the long run, and can save a lot of space and most people need to have a computer.

The down side to PCs is that you cant have slit screen multiplayer, but on the up side you can get mods. One thing I can't forget is looks.

Cheaper in the long run? I don't think so. Good quality TV, sound system, console (games are much more expensive). For that money I can have a killer PC which I can use for many years.

I don't think a sound system is imperative. Also, it would cost no more to buy one for a console than a PC. As for a quality TV, well, it's also a TV, it's not just for the PS3. As others have said, a PC is a gaming device as well as a work device. Well a TV is also a TV!

Consoles, in the long run are cheaper, but obviously you see it ageing.

No. You can make your PC a TV without paying a grand for it. 30€ TV tuners are common.

And how many people in this world really want to do that? Do you not think 95% of folk would rather just buy a TV and be done with it? Technicalities are great and all that, but you have to remember this is average Joe we are talking about.

Why should it be the average joe we're talking about? Nowhere did I see this only being about joe. What if I was introducing my opinion on what would be the best? I'd rather have a TV tuner than a real TV for 30x the price.

OK, true. Well the original argument made was that someone said console gaming was more expensive in the long run. They stated you had to buy a high end TV. You don't.

You could buy a Dell monitor that has HDMI input like you would for a PC. Or you could buy an expensive TV that, funnily enough, also doubles as a TV. PC's are just more expensive, but that is justified by the range of things they can do. But, cheaper than a simply console setup? Nope.

The cost of a TV and sound system can't just be thrown on top of the actual console's price. The console itself that's actually playing games is $250 or so. That's the cost of console gaming.

The cost of the TV can be thrown on top of the console just as well as the rest of the computer can be thrown on top of a GPU

Console gaming: You buy a console - connect to TV that you already have
PC gaming: You buy a GPU - connect to a PC you already have.

Done. Easy comparison. And I know I know, the average joe is too lazy / scared to do this procedure himself, but that is not a valid point in my opinion.

Assuming the case fits it, assuming the PSU is powerful enough, assuming it actually has the right power connectors, assuming it has the cooling to deal with it, assuming the rest of the hardware actually can handle the GPU and won't bottleneck it... etc... oh and the inevitable issue of having driver problems

People just want consoles because they are quick, easy, do a fair few cool things and have some good games. They are great for when your mates come round, easy to maintain and all you need is a TV with HD and HDMI (well, for best quality at least).

It's nice having a utopia, but here, in the real world, things don't quite work your way.
