Convince me to switch from Amd to Intel - Page 2

I just switched, after seeing how much faster it was in FSX. With 965 @ 3.8 25-30Fps with 2600K 60-80. Unreal the jump.

Eh, Phenom II architecture is really outdated now, and just can't keep up with Sandy Bridge. I would know, because I've been on the Phenom II X4 940 BE (@3.7GHz) for the past 3 years now, and recently switched to Sandy Bridge. And boy is everything I do quicker now, with the 2500K. Getting alot more fps from my GTX 470 on this platform. I still have love for AMD, and really hoping Bulldozer takes the lead, but as of right now, SB is much faster than Phenom II... from personal experience.

I don't know why you need any convincing. AMDs are still slower per-clock than the Core 2 series, which are 2 generations old now in the intel world.

The sole advantage of AMD (currently) is cost.

AMD is cheaper, and at times price/performance ratio makes it the right choice given a persons budget...

But when it comes to performnce in comparing a cpu vs cpu Intel always wins, 2 core, 4 core, 6 core. At every level Intel cpu's are faster clock for clock...

I realize this but i have always been an Amd fan they always until now had the better bang for the buck and was alot more profitable selling completed rigs.

does the 2600k show as 8 cores? I am still really wanting the 2600k but dont want to dump the whole pc budget on mb/cpu also i just a few days ago got a brand new set of corsair doms 2000mhz c8 that i am not sure if work yet with the 2600k

yes the 2600k will show 8 cores in the OS. On the hardware side its a quad core thats been hyper threaded (so the chip has 4 "real" cores & 4 "virtual" cores)

If you can though wait (as others have said) or not Asus has listed AM3+ processor compatibility with AM3 boardshere

I would suggest waiting though, we really don't know what Bulldozer brings to the table. The only reason why I didn't wait is I am building multiple rigs

One of my main reasons to switch to intel:
Pins. AMD CPUs still have pins on the bottom of them. ergo if you do manage to accidentally drop one, you may end up needing a new cpu. drop an intel cpu and it will do nothing to it.

Another reason is the integrated memory controller. makes everything faster (less latency between the CPU/RAM)

I'm not sure why AMD has not switched to an LGA architecture, though i suppose Intel could have patented it, which would be really unfair

you shouldnt need convincing lol

just do it!! how many i7 2600Ks do u see on here at 5Ghz??!! I would love to upgrade to a sandy setup and with $600 you can get the i7 2600K, Asus P8P67 PRO and 6 GB of 1600 Gskill ram

Go Sandy 2500K or 2600K if you need Hyper Threading.

Asus P8P67 Pro is a nice and popular motherboard.

I see you already have the important SSD If you haven't sold that too? If so I recommend you go with an Intel X-25 Gen.2 SSD. Safe bet. 80GB should do

AMD has been using IMCs in thier processors longer than Intel has. AMD does use LGA sockets on thier server line, just not desktop.

On topic:
If you get a 2500k or a 2600k you will be happy, That said if you want the best & fastest processor till SB-e (later 2011) or Ivy Bridge (early 2012) then wait till BD comes out and compare, chances are EVEN if you go 2500/2600 Intel will cut prices on the eve of the BD launch (steal some thunder)

cheers
