Looking for suggestions for sound dampening

Thread Starter
Well, first the reason: I sometimes work from home, and it's about to all the time, and I'm a call taker. The main issue is I work grave shifts, so I'm up for 13hrs at night either working or waiting for work to come in. I have a pregnant wife, and a almost 10mo son, so you can see why I'm concerned about waking someone up.

The room is on the other side of the house from the bedrooms, but I feel still lets too much sound escape to their side. Now, I'm not looking to create a wannabe recording studio, I just want to see what kind of lower budget sound dampening solutions I could use so I don't have to sit in near silence all night, and so others don't have to tiptoe around the house during the days that I sleep in here.

Any tips/suggestions?

Wrap it up with foam but, cut out the holes for the fans...

And put rubber feet on your case..

The cheapest way would be to use Owens Corning 703 insulation and make some paneling to line the room with, very popular with the diy home audio crowd although they only use it for small panels. Should be relatively cheap too and is usually under a dollar per square foot. If you want to get more into it you can double up the drywall, replace the doors with higher density ones, and much more costlier alternatives.

Place rubber, or any other elastic on every screw, or even wields on teh case and even on the fans create some custom fan blades that can individually move freely well spinning to create as less less stress on spinning blades mod the heck out of the the bearings
and your on your way to quietness, heck why not ad a tiny speaker the makes a low pitch noise to dampen the little sound left
really that should work really well not joking it will work!

hang blankets on the walls, or towels.. or egg cartons.. OR all of them.

my friend had blankets and egg cartons on his walls, when i went over to his house i was like wha? but then he pulled out the drums and busted some beats while i went elsewhere in the house.. it helped deaden the sound alot.

I have used towels on the walls behind my sub for my pc and it helped isolate the sound to my room.
