This is OCN so that should matter, right?
yes.Interesting about the larger size pins as well.

Oh and yes Gigabyte also threw their hat into the ring on the BIOS upgradability. So the Big Three have called AMD out.

Gigabyte on board with a BIOS update, please tell more?

To me, if AMD says it isn't going to be supported that means it won't run. But to the contrary, it is going to be supported by the majority of motherboard manufacturers for their current AM3 boards. So when JF-AMD said

He should have in fact said, "AMD does not support Bulldozer in AM3 boards" because the statement he made is clearly 100% wrong.

From the pictures of the Asrock 890FX Deluxe5 on Newegg which is the native AM3+ socket, you can see it says FSB2.6GHz. Since AM3+ boards use the same chipsets as AM3, I would speculate the only difference between AM3+ and AM3 is some power technologies and 2600mhz HT Link instead of 2000mhz.

I was really hoping Bulldozer would use a completely different socket and new chipsets from the get go. This makes me worry about performance Sandy Bridge is going to be hard to overthrow, especially considering the ridiculous overclocking results from air and watercooling.
To be honest JF-AMD is in the wrong sector to be making claims about whether the "Consumer" version of the bulldozer will be backward compatible. He's the server guy.

He said on a number of occasions that he cannot fully comment on the compatibility for the consumer, but you guys take it for gold when he says that it's not.

Gigabyte finally has BIOS updates for select AM3 boards?

I thought that it was about time someone said it, I am not trying to be disrespectful to JF-AMD but he isn't the one that should be calling this stuff out.

I am hoping so, but regardless I will buy one and if it doesn't work.....meh.
I'll just put into the cupboard and wait until I can buy a suitable mobo.

But I am thinking that there will be an update, maybe not right at this moment due to the release of the 3.1 revision boards Gigabyte have.

But it has been hinted at already that there is an update. I'll have a further look into it.

All I know is that SOMEBODY is either lying or both are telling the truth.

ASRock is a subdivision of ASUS.

You know, THAT company that stated with a BIOS upgrade that 8 to 10 AM3 Boards would run AM3+? All of them less than a year old at the time ASUSTaiwan dropped that golden diamond encrusted gem upon the world?

Might it more LIKELY being that both are right? We know there are FOUR different versions of the FX CPU. All of them under the code name BULLDOZER?

I think that it's funny that people are so convinced that it will never work.

But I ask y'all, would ASUS put their reputation on the line by lying about the ability to run an AM3+ CPU on their current boards? And if so what's to gain from it? It's more likely that people that aren't on an AM3 board are going to buy an AM3+ board regardless of how entry level it is. There is only one AM3+ board at this time. Hell compare it to the bottom end of the BIOS upgrade, the M4A89GTD Pro, if you've got issues with Formula cause I run it and refer to it. Apologies if it rubs people the wrong way. It's not about you and it's not about me. It's about US and whether or not somebody is lying. I seriously doubt that anyone is lying.

But what Enthusiast Board had ASRock made in the last year? They stand to lose money if they don't advertise the benefits of going to AM3+. It's called ADVERTISING, anyone who ever worked in a store can tell people this.

I say EVERYBODY is right in this little dog and pony show.

AMD says they don't support Bulldozer being run on AM3 due to the loss of "features".

ASUS, Gigabyte AND MSi all say that with a BIOS upgrade certain AM3 Boards will run AM3+ CPUs'.

And now ASRock stirs the pot with this Advertisement.

It's up to the consumer as to what they want at this point. If you're holding the Golden Ticket, do you give it up because you promised the candy bar to the neighbor kid not realizing you've given away your shot at immortality? Or do you do so because you can afford more of them giving you better access to it?

Me? I'm a stingy Bish and I'm gonna wring every last cent out of the Golden Ticket I'm holding in my grubby little paws.

I just hope that there will be an update for my board, I don't want to retire it yet. My board is just a year old.

It seems like only 8 series boards are supporting BD That would be cool if they did it for the 7 series chipsets too.

but here's the funny thing, they are doing it for the 770 and 760G chipset too. So if they don't I'll be a little erked off.

I'd be irked too,if they did something that silly.
Having "Bulldozer support" for the 760 & 770 chipset, and not the high end 790X chipset is dumb.

But here's the thing, I think that it's marketing. Gigabyte won't do an update yet due to the new 3.1 revisions, "shooting ones self in the foot" I think they call it.

I guess that they will make their money off the 3.1 revision boards, then they will release a BIOS update for us mere plebs.
