[HH] Questions of Compatibility: AMD, AM3, and Bulldozer - Page 8

If AMD actually wanted it to not work, they should've designed it so there was absolutely no way it would. I'm not a CPU engineer or anything, but I'm sure they could've done that in the design process.
...maybe you should lay off the dopamine for a while, it's not hepling...

^^^Not only here but other citable references CAN and have been found where AMD stated they do NOT support AM3 with Bulldozer. This reference is a roundabout way of saying the same thing.

You can stop tryin to bust my balls now thank you. My reading comprehension level probably makes yours look like a Kinder Kid's.

We could either provide AM3 support and lose some of the capabilities of the new Bulldozer architecture or, we could choose the AM3+ socket which would allow the Bulldozer-base Zambezi to have greater performance and capability.

The majority of the computer buying public will not upgrade their processors, but enthusiasts do. When we did the analysis it was clear that the customers who were most likely to upgrade an AM3 motherboard to a Bulldozer would want the features and capability that would only be delivered in the new AM3+ sockets. A classic Catch-22.

Why not do both you ask? Just make a second model that only works in AM3? First, because that would greatly increase the cost and infrastructure of bringing the product to market, which would drive up the cost of the product (for both AMD and its partners). Secondly, adding an additional product would double the time involved in many of the development steps.

So in the end, delivering an AM3 capability would bring you a less featured product that was more expensive and later to market. Instead we chose the path of the AM3+ socket, which is a path that we hope will bring you a better priced product, with greater performance and more features - on time.

When we looked at the market for AM3 upgrades, it was clear that the folks most interested in an AM3-based product were the enthusiasts. This is one set of customers that we know are not willing to settle for second best when it comes to performance, so we definitely needed to ensure that our new architecture would meet their demanding needs, for both high performance and overclockability. We believe they will see that in AM3+."

Both parties can co-exist... AMD and the mobo makers are not planning a rumble as far as I can tell.

EDIT: I never thought support meant "work" or "not work". Seems more like a legal out for AMD more than anything else...
Huh?

I think you've confoozed what I've been saying. I never said BD wouldn't work. In fact I've maintained that if ASUS(which I knew from the beginning of this issue) says that AM3 will support AM3+ CPUs', that they aren't going to make a grand gesture and name 10 boards as compatible if they aren't exactly that with nothing more than a BIOS change.

The pins will matter depending how they and the socket are wired and what those connections are capable of.

AMD or no one else has they won't support previous chipsets, that has nothing to do with the socket.

I see the problem clearly now, you don't actually understand English, hence all Russian (or whatever it is in your profile). AMD are SUPPORTING BD in AM3,

SUPPORTING,

They're not saying it won't work, they're saying they won't endorse (probably too long a word for you) it in an AM3 socket.

I'm sorry, I really don't know how to simplify it anymore for you, I feel deeply sorry for you that you can't understand simple concepts, and i'm at a loss as to how i could convey it any easier for you.

You have my simpathies with your condition, I know there's no hope for you, I just hope your carers can ease your journey through life for you as much as possible.

Huh

I agree with you that BD will work in certain AM3 boards. But that has nothing to do with AMD. ASUS and AMD are different companies so I fail to see how ASUS can tell us anything about what AMD is going to do.

Why don't you get this... ASUS is going to support BD in AM3 and AMD is NOT. Two different stances that will co-exist. Why do you think they must be towing the same line?

AMD doesn't support core unlocking yet some mobo makers do.... this is no different.

Just skimming through the postings and you both pretty much saying the same thing, lol.

AMD says they won't support BD on AM3 boards.

ASUS says they can do it.

One or the other or both or neither are going to look like fools when BD releases. But to me it's just all marketing moves. Mobo makers wants people to buy their boards sooner rather than later and then maybe have to get another. AMD wants people to buy the new chipset with new CPU's; higher demands on newer technology so more profit for them. They're just looking for ways to make money is all.

It sounds like the discussion here has to do with the word "support", and people's lack in understanding of the word.

When the time comes we will find out.. We will need a AMD Bulldozer CPU Itself to check compatibility, not idiots repeating what others have repeated...

Yeah, we are basically saying the same thing,

Don't mind the mini flame war I just got a bit annoyed with the whole "ASUS is going to force AMD to support this or that" vibe he had going because that is very likely not true.

As for what actually is true...well only 6 more weeks

From reading this, it looks like if you really want to use BD, then get a new board.
