AMD 6970 Crossfire problems. - Page 2

As for your issues in GTA IV and crysis 2. I have fixes for them both.

Try this software (RadeonPro)
http://www.radeonpro.info/en-US/Downloads/

Once you have that installed make a profile for GTA IV
Because the GPUs are 2096MB each, GTA IV thinks that since 4GB in total in too unbeleiveable you must not have enough memory.

Now GTA IV is not coded properly for CrossFire, so you kinda need to trick it into running like so:

In your GTA IV profile in RadeonPro choose the advanced tab. Select Anisotropic Optimization (with a little square not a check)
Then select "Crossfire X Settings" at the bottom
After that, you've got to the Tweak Tab, and under the Vsync control select the drop down to always off.
Now look a little bit down were you will see MVPU Mode.

Here, you've got to Select AFR, or Alternate frame rendering.
This basically tricks the game to thing that both cards are one. Alternate frame rendering, as the name suggests forces each GPU to render one frame after another back and forth between each GPU

And finally, as for the "not enough" memory issue, click over on the Triggers Tab, select your game directory if it hasn't already done so for you, and under the parameters entry box enter: "-norestrictions -nomemrestrict" obviously without the parenthesis.

You can now launch the game.

Im running i7-960 with 6970s, and i can average around 55-60fps with everything very high except shadows... Miserable coding simply terrorizes the GPU's
I can get around 60-70% GPU load out on both GPUs (which was a lot higher than what i had before (15% load out on both cards)

For Crysis 2 issues, simply enable AFR and disable VSync to always off smile.gif

Hope that this helped smile.gif

Great post alienprim173! I just purchased GTA IV in a steam sale, wish I didnt with the headache its been giving me from the start.

I was wondering why you didn't assign a crossfirex profile to it in radeonpro? like the FEAR profile or some such?

also, can ANY system run this game at full with its horrible coding? pisses me off that some '08 game cant be maxxed out!

How to make a profile for GTA IV in radeonpro v1.1.0.6
open [Add a new profile] select gtaiv.exe from your hard drive
under the [Advanced] tab put a check mark next to [Anisotropic optimization] leave the rest blank
under the [Tweaks] tab slide [MVPUMode] to [Alternate Frame Rendering]
under the [Tweaks] tab select [VSync control] [Always off]
under the [Launcher] tab select [Games for Windows Live/Starcraft II]
under the [Launcher] tab under [Launcher details] browse for [launchgtaiv.exe]
under the [Launcher] tab select the gtaiv main folder as your [Working directory]

Bumping an old topic with new information...

Having tried both suggestions from Alienprime and Xfullboost, the game still kept crashing before it loaded the first screen and the windows live message. Thanks for getting me started anyway!

According to the rage3d forums, you need to Disable API Monitoring For Programs not listed in my profile or the Steam Community Feature for GTA 4. My game is the bought disc so I tried the former - game now loads as it should. API monitoring is in the Settings portion of the program - in my case, I had to completely disable API Monitoring, probably because I created a profile.

With version 1.1.1.0, the Advanced tab, the Anisotropic Frame Rendering option section, each of the items have a greyed out checkmark, a real checkmark or nothing. Thanks Xfullboost for clarifying the status of these buttons!
