Not very sure about the new DV models, but I just replaced a system fan and primary battery for a customer in a DV-7100. (had to pull the whole motherboard) It is older and running Vista, but I really don't think it was used very much before these things went. An original OEM battery was $115 with shipping, so that is pretty steep for a laptop battery, and the fan was $40.

Besides that, it is a really nice laptop. Blu-ray burner, really nice sound (for a laptop), I think it is actually supposed to be some sort of "home theater" laptop or something.

I'm just not very sure about HPs build quality anymore. I remember back in the day the HP lappys were built like tanks, but it seems that with every generation they skimp a little more on quality.

Nice, I ordered mine here, though we only have 8gb or 4gb models for some reason.
I did order dv7, just cos I crave a bigger screen. Pretty much same specs otherwise, cost around 970 euro (with 4gb, and 500gb disk, all expandable so I can upgrade whenever). Guess they add ontop of the price a bit here :/.

It was a close call between this one and the new ASUS N73s. The asus on the other hand comes with a 1080p screen for change more, but the gfx card is a 540m, that I read consumes more power and is quite worse.

One last question, do ALL of them come with beats audio?

The current DV series touchpad is awful. The buttons are part of the touchpad, so if you are moving your finger around then click with your thumb or some other finger, the cursor jumps to a different part of the screen. I work on laptops all day long, and while i haven't seen any problems with the new model hp's as far as video chips, we have 5-6 older hp's come in each week to get the video chip reflowed.

Other than that, the laptops are nice.
