Difference between Radiators

Thread Starter
I have 3 Swiftech radiators - just the basic ones. I am wondering if upgrading might help reduce temps. I am running Scythe UltraKaze fans, but I use a fan controller and usually leave them at ~ 1200RPM. I crank them up when I'm doing any hardcore encoding, etc., but I'm not sure it makes a huge difference.

Would getting different radiators help?

You will just be having more water running, maybe one or two degrees. Getting a bigger radiator is a much better idea.

He's mistaking radiator for reservoir.

Upgrading your radiators won't help if what you have already is sufficient.

d'oh! What do you mean "if" what you have is already sufficient? I don't know if it is or not.

I remember somebody (DuckieHo?) saying that a way to decide is if you increase the fan speed a substantial amount and your temperatures remain the same, then you have enough radiators. Also, your temperatures should stabilize after a while - if not, more heat is being produced than can be dissipated.

That being said, I would imagine what you have now is good enough. I think I put a link in your other thread to Maximum PC's Dream Machine that has two 980x-equivalent Xeons and three 480s on the same amount of radiator. They claimed it was sufficient.

I say crank them up for a few days at a time since you already got an idea running them at 1200 Rpms, see if it gets lower.
I too have two swiftech radiators one 360 and a 240 at full blast with hs Yates I wouldn't know how they fair against a different radiator. Check skinnee's review on triple radiators I am pretty sure yours are sufficient enough.

Thanks. That is a great answer. Turning up my fans doesn't really seem to do much at all. I've heard of radiators that are supposedly "optimized for low-speed fans," so I thought maybe the opposite might be available too.

I will try running them full-out for a while and see what happens.

I couldn't say really. All my testing thus far has been anecdotal. I've just cranked them up thinking "can't hurt." I'll do some pseudo-scientific testing and see how it goes.

could be your block/flow rate as well there mate..fans and rad's are only half of the equation.. You have to get the heat into the water before your rad can deal with it
