9850 BE OC question.

Yeah, I realize I'm far behind the times but well, I wanted to at least have some experience under my belt before building a new rig and destroying it, so heres where I'm at though.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1780286

This is 24/7 stable, I haven't played with the OC itself in probably 4-5 months, but for some reason this still isn't good enough for me, I feel like it should go higher, but if i raise the multi, or frequency from here it just bsod's (page fault clock interrupt) under any stress, and if I raise the voltage to go with it, it will run but core 2 errors after about 2 minutes.. Is this just as far as my weakest core will let me go or am I just missing something? Any help appreciated.

Well it's an old processor. I have a 9950 that didn't want to go faster than 3.1, and then i burnt my VRM's. What are the temps on all 4 cores? Are the two that fail significantly higher? If it's not running to hot, than it's pretty much down to the voltage. It's an old processor and an old board, so it's not surprising that you can't push it any further. However, getting my 9950 to 3.1, i found it to be picky. It actually crashed if i had too much voltage as well as too little voltage. If you went from stable and bumped up the multiplier to 14 and tried minimal voltage increases and somewhat big voltage increases, than i'd say you probably wont get it any higher.

Honestly under full load I can't manage to get any of the cores temps to go above 44c, and right now i can say its pretty hot in my room, not sure accurate what my ambient is but right now with my stable OC and prime running its steady between 43-44c. I honestly figured it was the chip and mobo being old and not having the capabilities ones do now, but I wasn't sure if maybe it was just something obvious I was missing, but I suppose if you had the same experience with basically the same chip thats probably just all mine will do.

Yup, it's pretty old, so I didn't expect much and I'm pretty pleased with 3.1. Then again, i grabbed mine for 60 bucks and a dark knight push/pull for 20, so it was a big performance increase for the money. What are you planning on upgrading to or rebuilding?

Lol I bought this thing when it was brand new, basically the whole rig except for the case. but I'd honestly like to just start over but as I am unemployed that probably won't happen for a while... I was considering buying a 965 if i could find one cheap and just using it for the time being but alas I think my gpu is on the way out the door, so that might have to be my first purchase just keep things functioning until i can scrounge the money to build a new one.

Right now, I'd say your processor and GPU are pretty well matched. If you do quite a bit of gaming though, I'd say get a new GPU. If you're tight on budget, I'd say go for a 955 instead, and maybe even look for one here on OCN for a nice price. You won't get a much better OC with the 965 that's all that worth it on a tight budget.

Yeah, idk something about this machine just feels sluggish, but recently I've started dropping to low frame rates for no apparent reason so I'm assuming the gpu is the first thing I'll have to upgrade anyways... though fair point on the 955 idea, probably better off for me, but again, this is all eventual, I'm just bored and was hoping there was something fun I could do to occupy my time with this machine, but its probably gone as far as it will so until then. Thanks for the help.
