Should I get 2 6850's or 1 6950?

Thread Starter
I'm looking to get an upgrade to my 460 768MB. I was considering a 6950 which would cost about 280 bucks but then I thought about 6850 crossfire which wouldn't actually be all that much more expensive than a 6950, and I have the mobo+PSU to support it.

So would the dual 6850's actually be a better investment? There are a few issues with crossfire that I'm worried about, most notably the microstutter and some games screwing up with crossfire enabled (I remember early on in Starcraft 2 it didn't work right with crossfire setups)

Thanks!

I always try to go with the best single card. So down the road you can get another one and have a better setup then if you got the 2 cheaper cards

Get a 6950 and unlock it imo You'll also have room to add another one down the road when they get cheaper

Its just that there's alot more **** to troubleshoot when you
add crossfire, especially unecessarily, when you could just get 1 card

1 card ftw in this case

Like what?

I've never had a problem with crossfire, from 3870's, to 4830's, to tri fire 4770's, a 4850x2, 5770's, and now the 6870's.

Haven't had a problem yet with microstutter or any of those things.

I'm not saying you can't have a good experience.
I'm saying if you get 1 higher power card instead of crossfire
you make there a 0% chance of having crossfire-related issues

Why not eliminate one more thing that could go wrong when you
don't lose any performance efficiency?

Apparently my motherboard only supports 16x/4x crossfire, so I suppose the performance increase wouldn't be that drastic?

Seems like a 6950 will be much less of a headache for me then? Thanks for the input guys.

I just haven't seen one card be better than two yet. While some people have had catastrophic failures with dual card setups... I have not, and will continue to defend them until I do.

Yeah, go for it, get a 2gb one then, try for an unlock.
