[Crymod] Crysis 2 Editor and Free CryENGINE 3 SDK announced! - Page 11

If Crytek actually does something meaningful with it, then it'll be the FIRST GAME to do so.
DX11 could be in-house patch work also. These games are still multi-platform, made with DX9 and DX11 patched later. That's why you have seen little change. All multiplatform games are made in DX9 first, even if the game is released in DX11 also. Other exclusive PC games like Shogun 2 patches in DX11 later.

There hasn't been a single dedicated DX11 game to hit the market yet. Once you see the game requirements has DX9 and DX11, the DX11 feature is a patch, none of them are DX11 only. From a financial point of view, it only makes sense make a game in DX9 first like you have pointed out many times. Epic's Good Samaritan Demo is an example of dedicated DX11. Shattered Horizon is another example of a dedicated DX game (DX10).

Another false observation. You mean, if only Crytek went back to their PC roots and made Crysis 2 an expansion pack/copy of Crysis 1 then they'd have more sales? Well if that's the case then why was Crysis 1 pirated so much and had such limited sales? Face it, no matter how much devs cater to the PC crowd, we don't really show them much love in terms of sales.
The console versions aren't doing that great in sales either compared to all the hype. Sales still haven't reach the 3 million PC copies of the first Crysis and this one was multiplatform. All games are pirated so that shouldn't be motivation to omit PC features, it's not something exclusive to Crytek, just an excuse to not focus on PC anymore. Activision has more of a reason to ignore PC gamers than Crytek does. If the PC was the lead platform they would have made more money and console owners wouldn't have noticed the difference, many of them are blown away by Crysis in it's current form.

Now look at Crytek, they have to release a DX patch, textures, AI update, MP update, SDK, editor etc., if they didn't half-ass the game in the first place they won't have all of this post release work. CE3 was suppose to make game development easier, I guess not.

Crytek's DX11 will be a patch, it will make little difference unless Nvidia has requested an extreme tessellation feature or something.

Aug... Tell me who cares about any of this? Because around that time people will be on the edge of their seat waiting for BF3 beta or playing it. So please, stop kidding yourself people. This SDK doesn't mean crap, as it applies to almost no one, cuz you will all be on that BF3 status. If you say you wont, Your a lier.

This also applies to the restart of APB that is just gonna straight die again.. Since they aren't expected to leave beta till Aug/Sept.

The ignorance is strong with this one.

But to amuse you, Gee, I dunno, anyone with any interest in modding / development. I think you're mistakenly assuming this strictly a 'gamers' thing......it isn't.

HuH? Last I heard from EA, Crysis 2 was EA's BEST title of the year after only 2 weeks, taking over Dragon Age 2 and Dead Space 2. That's pretty great to me.

Most likely we don't have the public sales figures b/c it was released March 22nd it's only 1 month later and sales figures usually go month by month.

And to add a little context to your sales content of Crysis 1 sold something like 80k its first week and it took a whole quarter for them to hit 1 million sales with Crysis 1, and its highly likely that the remaining 2 million were at bargain bin prices. I'd imagine that Crysis 2 hit +1 million in its first MONTH.

All games are pirated but pirated FAR more on PC than console and usually with little to no recourse for the devs when done on PC, whereas MS or Sony can, and have, bricked hundreds of thousands of chipped consoles before major launches.

You have no facts to support your first claim. What we CAN state as fact is that there would be a pretty sizable increase in the budget if the PC was the LEAD platform instead of them developing for all 3 at the same time.

So basically what we have is you telling them to act on faith and add millions to the budget in the hopes that the PC crowd, who pirated PC-exclusive Crysis 1 by 15:1 and who eventually pirated the beta Crysis 2 a full MONTH before it was released, would reward them for their effort, hardwork and loyalty to the PC crowd THIS TIME around?

Chances are they would have released those anyways.

CE3 is a brand new engine for them and like any gaming engine you have to work out the kinks sometimes. Every engine has them. I remember Source having that notoriously annoying sound stutter bug that took 6months to a year to fix. I don't fault Crytek for having a few bugs with a brand new game and a brand new engine. I WOULD fault them if they went the Bethesda route and released 2 to 3 more games using the same engine with the same massive list of bugs and NO fixes for the majority of the major issues. It's been 3 yrs since Fallout 3 came out and my MFing radio STILL echoes!

DICE went the console route with Bad Company and now going back to PC with Battlefield 3 because it's their core audience while still making it multiplatform. Crysis is Cryteks' core audience and FarCry was multi-platform. Crytek took it's core game and made console the core audience. DICE able to fund the PC version by using console revenues since PC can't support it's own dedicated version. No one is denying that PC generates less money, but consoles will not receive a lesser product either way it goes during development, while PC quality is up and down. Nothing wrong with mutliplatform games, I actually encourage it but not at the cost of PC features.

Yes it's a new engine, but some of those features has nothing to do with CE3. DX11, high rez textures, advanced settings are not native to the engine because consoles can't make use of these features. They have to be patched in afterwards which creates more work. Dealing with EA's deadline, I can see how it was impossible to rollout all of these features by release. With CE3, it's tough to work on other versions individually because the engine is developing all three games simultaneously, forcing any tweaks to be done after the game is finished, thus the delay of PC features.

I feel the music tends to repeat itself too often throughout the game, but that's not to say it isn't a bad sound piece.
