Shall I go any further? (i5 2500k OC)

Thread Starter
So I just bought a new rig after like 5 years and I was pretty out of touch with the latest tech and all...but I think I know what I'm doing and any kind of input would be appreciated.

I just overclocked my 2500k Sandy Bridge to 4.7Ghz (@ 1.34v) and my CPU is running stable at average temps (all 4 cores) of 55, 59, 59, 58 at FULL load and at 24-30C idle. I ran Prime95 all night and the max. temp 2 of the cores got to were 66C.

Now, shall I take it one step further and push for 4.8Ghz judging by those temperatures? Also, I was thinking of taking down the vcore a notch...what do you think?

Now, try some IntelBurnTest or Linx with AVX (newest linpack) installed! Temps will get, let's say "little" higher!

Which Prime95 test did you run? 12H Prime95 blend test is my recommendation. Either that or 50 passes of LinX/IBT w/updated Linpack using all/max ram (See my sig for download).

I think those temps are fine. I personally don't mind hitting 75C-80C in Prime/IBT/LinX (maxing at 65C or so in games), but what's safe is for you to decide.

You can also try lowering cpu pll voltage from 1.8 to 1.75-1.76. This should allow you to lower cpu voltage even more resulting in even lower temps.

Yeah, lowering your CPU PLL can definitely give you lower temps. I have shaved off several degrees by taking mine down to 1.71v, which is completely stable for me. I've passed hundreds of LinX runs (with AVX enabled) with this voltage.
