sandy or wait for ivybridge?

Thread Starter
i was just curious because im going to wait it out until i make my next build, i was wondering for what we know so far is it worth getting an ivybridge over the sandybridge? also would we expect ib to have unlocked multi?

I've not bothered reading up about ivybridge that much, but a die shrink doesn't mean it will OC better necessarily.

I plan on waiting until Ivy's release then looking at how good it is compared to Sandy. Would also like to see some extreme chips before I make a decision.

Well, that and the fact I can't quite justify getting a new computer so soon, IMO hang on for the 1356/2011 sockets

As much as I keep almost clicking buy on a 2600k I'm holding off to:

1. See how bulldozer performs and if a 2600k drops in price due to it.
2. If I can get an 8 core 22nm cpu this time next year then it should crap all over even the 10 core enhanced bulldozer at 32nm

Still curious as to if the 8 core ivy bridge chips are on 1155 or strictly 2011. If they are on 1155 I could get the mobo and ram now with a 2500k chip then swap it over next year.

The question is if to get a stepping stone upgrade.

how about buying a sandy bridge rig now... and upgrading cpu's to the ivy bridge 1155 chip when it comes out? (it will be available on the 1155 platform and the current p67 chipset)

Right now i'd wait and see what Bulldozer brings to the table, but if you do wait for Ivy Bridge you will be in for a price premium.

No... that will be reserved for socket 2011... from what i've heard all the ivy's on the 1155 platform will be quad cores.. still worth it though

a projected 20-30 percent increase in clock for clock performance

EDIT: Why would you need an 8 core? unless you are running some sort of server i don't see the need for it... a good quad with ht or a hexacore would do it just for about anything

I'm pretty sure it's the 4 core variant that will be available. I saw it on a slide at anadtech.
