$2500 of frustration. Someone smarter than me (that should be easy) help please

Thread Starter
Well, I bought an ASUS P8P67 Deluxe, along with everything else I would need for a new computer build. After being home a year from Iraq and watching my friends play computer games (something I got out of in excess of 5 years ago), specifically sims like DCS A-10, Blackshark, ect, I wanted in!

So, I set my credit card ablaze and bought everything I would need for a build.

1155 i7
Asus P8P67 Deluxe Mobo
8GB of DDR3 2133mhz Gskill RAM
MSI Radeon 6950 2GB
Corsair 850HX
Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB
Coolermasters HAF 932
LG 42'' LD450 for a monitor (It IS a sim rig...)

...And an Asus wireless adapter...

So, as it sits now, the computer likes to hang on shutdown often.
The reset button on my case doesn't function, nor do the lower 2 USB inputs (I can live with this). Upon further investigation the rest button's ground is severed. Easy fix...but it's just one more thing...

So now onto my big problems. Asus TPU, and "easy over clock" features in UEFI do...seemingly nothing. System is shown at 3.4ghz under control panel > system info. AI Suite does its thing, and even says a gain of "30%" upon restart...but its not indicated anywhere...

Also, it shows my memory at a clock speed of 800mhz in AI suite, and GPU-Z shows "DRAM speed" as 961.6...but its 2133mhz RAM?

I am not computer inclined. I can follow directions well though I'm just very frustrated and feeling a bit disparaged. Played TF2 last night, and other than sucking, it was a blast. I missed computer gaming. I hope I can sort this all out.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

something in the background isnt closing when your try to shut down which is why its hanging. get rid of your asus overclocking software. i wouldnt be surprised if your problems go away if you uninstall it.

start learning to overclock from the bios instead.

The system hanging on shutdown is usually an operating system install problem or a program not shutting down. Open task manager (control/alt/delete (not backspace) ) to find out whats still running.

Also, ram is Double data rate (DDR) so 961mhz is actually 1922mhz.

Fresh install of windows (ultimate), the only caveat was I partitioned the drive and installed windows to a 100gb section, and all my large programs to the larger section.

Rather certain its not spyware. Steam was the culprit of hanging shutdowns. I am using Avast for anti virus.

Even at 1940mhz, its 2133mhz memory....

I can uninstall the AI suite, and I could OC manually through BIOS, but I kind of liked the feature of the Mobo doing it for me. I know you can just tweak it to the point of not needing to mess with voltages or memory timing, but hell, I bought a 250 dollar Mobo for a reason... if thats what I end up having to do to make it work, I'm willing, but I was really digging the idea of flipping a switch or selecting the "performance" profile on the EUFI and being OC'd.

Last but not least, I have the most recent drivers off of asus's website.

these features are useless and usually do a pretty bad overclocking job by using far too much voltage. Do not use them. Sandy is REALLY easy to OC so you should be able to handle it no prob, just look it up on goolge.

GPU-Z is for your graphics card, so that would mean your RAM on your GPU is at 916Mhz. NOW, your system RAM will not be at 2133 unless you set the speed and timings/voltage in the BIOS. then open CPU-Z and go to the memory tab. your memory speed is twice what it shows there.

OP, you have to overclock from the Bios and get your overclock numbers from there as well.

Make sure your RAM volts/speed/timings are set manually and at stock.

Start overclocking your CPU, test with Prime95 (volts/speeds). When that is stable, then you can work on increasing your RAM speed, volts and tightening your RAM timings.

All this is done through your Bios.

There are lots of overclock guides on this forum, I just gave you the basics.
