I'm taking any info at this point with a large grain of salt. I don't see Nintendo a) releasing a console at the $400 price point or b) not maintaining a sizable profit margin on the console itself. I'll keep my ears perked and my expectations tempered for now.

Why are people excited about this ? The tech in this "new" machine will be 6 and 4 years old by the time its launched.

If this was 2005 I would be super excited.

If this was 2008 I would be excited.

....but its 2011 phones are running dual core processors and have dedicated gpu's. Nintendo I know you are doing it to make a profit from the start by selling spruced up old tech like what you did with the Wii but c'mon dog. That hardware will not take advantage of Unreal Engine 4.

they designed this back in 2008 IIRC, it takes years to develop a console, so the tech in the future they never knew about won't be used in the designs

My favorite part about the read was how it "might look like a futuristic SNES". That alone made me drop trow.

It's gonna need something a lot better than pretty graphics to out sell current, established in the market already, consoles that basically do the same thing. The new Wii is gonna need something awesomely super terrific to set it apart from what is out now.

How did the PS3 and 360 end up using high-end GPU equivalents at the time then?

Fact of the matter is, the companies that win designs for consoles always have road maps of their future tech. They use that for the designs of future consoles.

I hope this doesn't turn out like the Sega Dreamcast.

In addition, will we see new line of consoles from Microsoft and Sony? Seems like could be coming a lot sooner than we had expected.

Looks interesting but, I'm taking all rumours by a grain of salt until we can see some concepts, pictures, videos or proof.

We still don't know if they're announcing it in e3 this year. If they do, expect a 2012 release.

As for Sony and Microsoft. Since they go for higher specs they wont be releasing a new console until 2014/2015.
