Dark Knight and 2500K?

Thread Starter
Going to look at the Z68 Mobo choices before ordering build, but am planning on using my Dark Knight cooler as it performed well on a Q9650 and is fine on my i5 760.

Should I anticipate any problem using this cooler on the 2500K?

I know there are better cooling solutions but if this cooler will get me 4.4/4.5 and keep my CPU happy...then I'm good with it

None whatsoever, the xiggy DK is still a very capable cooler, I might check the fans and go with some gentle typhoons or somet NH P14's or something to make sure you get enough airflow.

The antec is also a very nice aircooling case. Maybe check your 240mm fan to make sure it's in tip top shape and you'll be golden

IF you're getting a sandybridge, your GPU is going to hinder you quite heavily on gaming.

Thanks compuman...I'm gettin' the big AntecDF 85 case and I might not be using a GPU at all if I get the Z68 mobo. The thing is I don't game at all and I don't watch movies on my PC either. The only thing I do is surf the net...here mostly and download Bluray movies from paid sites. I stream the blurays to my flatscreen TVs via Cat 6 >>media box>>>HDMI>>>TV

This PC is going to a relative of mine (stock) not an overclocking guy,so most hardware for new rig will be shiny new

OK so why get a sandybridge if that's all you're going to be doing. You could get away with an i3 tbh.

Right you are. Think of it like a guy who builds hotrods and never races them..or takes them out of the garage when it's raining It is just an "old man's" hobby". Need has nothing to do with it

edit: we are straying tho....I wanted to know if I would be ok with my old DK...seems I will

Nah, I can appricaite where you're coming from.

Yes, the heatsink is fine, and it will cool a stock i5 2500k without stressing at all with a cuople of good fans.

But if you're going to keep a 2500K at stock, there's really no point in getting it in the 1st place.... the K versions are only if you plan to overclock, otherwise just stick with a regular 2500, though it's major overkill for the needs you listed.

For the same reason people climb mountains. Or buy shiny sports cars and keep them covered up in their garage.

"Because they're there."
