Help needed - GPU and Sound Card

Thread Starter
So I am helping a friend doing a build and this is the original post: http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...ld-friend.html

However, now he's decided that he does want a dedicated GPU just for the heck of it, but does not need a great one. So I recommended the HD 6850 as it performs well and has a very good price-performance ratio.

However, now the question comes to the motherboard; one that is able to hold both the HD 6850 and the Asus Xonar Essence STX.

My question is that, both should be put in PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots, right? If not, what slot does the STX go into?

I guess, just a recommendation for a P67 board (not H67 anymore) that can handle both at max potential. I was thinking the P8P67 LE or the P8P67-M Pro.

Thanks!

I dont know Intel boards very well so I can't help there but that sound card should only need a PCI-E 1x. So that may open up some addl options.

From what i`ve read this P8P67-M Pro is a micro-atx.
So from these two it would be the P8P67 LE. It looks nice to me if you need a budget mobo.
Just did a SB build witha friend of mine. It was for his girlfriend. So no o.c.

This was the thread. We did it with a 5859 Sapphire xtreme, i5 2400k and the other parts described there + some small noctua. This is a nice budget build for average gaiming. The 5850 was in some benchmarks slightly better that the 6850.
I did never anything with soundcards so no clue on that subject.
Good Luck with the build!

P8P67-"M" ...of course it's a mATX board. Do you mean 2400 or 2500K? The 5850 is better than 6850 in performance no doubt, but the 6850 is better in tessellation and for games rely heavily on DX11, as well as lower power and better cooling. Also, the 5850 cost a lot more. The 6850 has the best price-performance ratio on the market right now.

To the OP: I don't recommend mATX because I always had problems with fitment
