Gotta ask...
Is this a legit windows install DVD?
Or
At least a known working one.

Edit... So it's fine prior to updating windows?
If so check what updates are being installed. Avoid SP1 and video driver since you aren't getting video. Still something changing your bios after install sounds like a script running during install.

Yes, is it a known working install disc? It's alright whatever the reason if you don't have the usual OEM / Retail disc but remember when you self-burn ISO's there can be "bad burns".

This.

Although, it's still a mystery why the boot priority in the BIOS is reverting back to what may be the defaults. However, this gives me a question to ask: does the EVGA x58 SLi 3 come with software that makes it possible to change the boot priority? I mean if so, then it would be the presence of such software installed in the system that is applying its settings (that is, once it's installed).

I bought this Windows disk.. I didn't burn an installer to a CD. It's legit.

I'm confused as to why the Bios reverts itself back on it's own myself.. and my bios peripheral menu doesn't have an AHCI option in it.

When I install windows, the updates that it automatically installs are Nvidia video card drivers, Sound drivers, and two other random things. I could try installing Windows without my ethernet cable plugged in, and then restart my computer to see if the desktop comes up fine.

Updates:

Still getting a messed up Windows desktop after installing updates.

So then don't install any updates at first. When you get here during the installation, click "Ask me later".

When you get to the desktop, go into the Windows Update settings and choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them".

After this, check for updates. Once the check is complete, right-click all driver-related updates and choose "Hide this update" for each one. There's a way to never see any driver offerings in the first place, but let's just focus on doing it this way for the sake of getting more familiar with this procedure.

After hiding every single driver that Windows Update offers, scroll through and look for the Service Pack 1 (or "SP1") update. Right-click it and hide it. Yes, I am recommending that you avoid SP1 as though it's some kind of virus.

If you do not see SP1 offered, then it would be offered after updating. Either way, you have to be in complete control over what Windows Update downloads and installs.

I don't have an SSD, but I hear they have firmware to be updated. you might want to make sure your drivers and firmwares are up to date. You can also edit your first thread with a picture of the Mavell bios. It's confusing to first readers.
