Not sure why your so butt hurt, it can not be done for $300. $300 can not build a gaming computer. All those parts are rather old and slow. Its not worth wasting money of them. What about an os? You going to pirate? This is basically like going to walmart and buying a pc and slapping a 9800 GT in it. ZOMG gaming pc.

Heres what I find wrong with this thread.

got SMACKED with identity theft... while its all being softed through, his $1300 budget just shrunk to $300 budget... he needs a PC within a week, so waiting til he gets his $ back isnt an option.
Your friend who has more pressing concerns such as getting his identity back is putting higher priority on getting a gaming computer (which is not needed, and rather WANTS a computer badly) then getting his credit card and identity back. Let alone in a week.

Agreed. I'm not trying to be rude here, but it would probably be wiser to get your finances in order before spending what little you have available just to play video games.

true that...

and plz dont buy a factory computer and slap in a graphics card...
the restrictions are insane.

u cant buy core parts for $300 and them putting another $1000 worth of extras and expect a gaming computer.

if hes getting back is $1000 later then just buy better core systems with a credit card.

For $350-400, you can build a semi-decent gaming rig. For $300, you'll need to settle for "used" parts. Also, the quality of parts is very important and skimping on a PSU so you can fit the budget is never a smart idea. Not saying that's what you're doing, but always buy quality parts and stack onto them later.

You can build a gaming rig for slightly over $300, but if the budget is $300 flat I don't see it happening.

I bought an AMD rig for $433 that included win 7 copy and needed an anti static wrist strap.

I had to hunt combos, promo codes, and rebates but I made it work.

Athlon X3
XFX 4850
f3 500gb
4 GB DDR3
Biostar microatx 880 mobo
cheap coolermaster case+430W PSU

Haven't built it yet, but it should play most games fine.

It can be done, but unfortunately it all depends on newegg's rollercoaster pricing strategy. The 4850 i got was in a combo discount with the ram plus it was on sale for 50.00 AR. Now it's at $90 AR. Good luck OP!

He needs a PC now, becuase he was in a study abroad program, and just got back to the USA. He had a really old laptop, and gave it to the family he was staying with abroad.
the thread is not about "tell me why he shouldnt get a PC" its tell me if theres anything better for 300$ than what i posted.
any comments about ZOMG 300$? are retarded.
