My experience with Sapphire - Tired of getting jerked around by companies...

I got tired of sending emails back and forth between canada computers and sapphire trying to figure out how to get an RMA filled...

so i called canada computers and got bad news, i have to deal directly with sapphire for the RMA, hence thier wonderous administraion rma fee for shipping back and forth between thier canadian office and hong kon

My 5770 is less than a year old, 6 1/5 months to be exact, which is well within the 2 year sapphire warranty period.

The sapphire tech support (online) seemed very friendly, efficient and helpful, they want me to pay a 25-45$ administraion fee just to RMA my card.

I dont know if im alone in this, but it seems a little unfair that i pay them 200$ for a card which ends up being defective, and again having to pay them between 15% - 25% of the original cost just to get it fixed DURING the warranty period.

Not only that but to talk to sapphires telephone tech support, you have to call their head office.. in hong kong! Long distance fees to asia are killer here! i would end up paying out the ass AGAIN just to TALK to a human being...

Now im not even sure what to do... i dont think it is worth it to pay the rma fee, not for this cheap(er) card.

So i have i guess a few options.

Deal with the card, the artifacts i experience arent very prominent, only every so often (once a week for cassual gaming, all the time for very select few areas of certain games)

Sell the card for what i can. Like stated, the issue isnt a HUGE problem, so it may be worth somthing, and depending on an appraisal price, i am leaning towards this...

Some people have suggested baking the card, but im extremely skeptical of this... im a cautious person.

So yeah... Ive decided that before buying a card for my new computer (going for a 6950 next) im going to do ALOT of thinking about what company i want to buy from. Cause as this experience shows, sometimes crap happens when you dont expect it.

yes, i would have to pay shipping to sapphires tech center in canada, and again an administration fee (determined by them) of 25-45$

this would equal to be at best 35$
at worst 55$ or more.

i wonder if that's the same case for the United States.

the sapphire love bandwagon has already set off on the trail. i don't think you can sway the love or hate people have with gfx companies.

They are still at it i see. They make me put a check in the box of the gpu i last rma'd to them to cover the return shipping. Got a 4870 x2 sitting the closet. It went out and they wanted to do the same thing again. Their rma and customer service is bad. And it seems they will not learn and continue to try and get over on people. More like a money issue it seems really. Good luck to you on it.

I went through the same thing with my 6950. It'll be a $25 admin fee since you're in Ontario and shipping to them in markham via canada post should be around $10. I shipped my card to them and got a new one back in 2 weeks.

edit: Oh and BTW the "Admin fee" or whatever is for the 3rd party company that does the rma's in North America. Sapphire just ships them a card from HK and that's it.

i would assume it is the same thing in the states, but i am not 100% sure.. their legal documentation is realy weird and hurts the brain to read.

for a 6950, i could see the worth. It is a 350$ card (aprx)

the value of my 5770 is much less than that.

I had a good RMA experiance with Sapphire. My 4890 had cold boot issues so I had to RMA it to California (Athlon Micro). Got a new one 2-3 weeks later. (felt like forever )
