Sidewinder X6 vs Razer Blackwidow (or anything else under $80)

I need a new gaming keyboard, and it really only came down to those 2 because they had really great reviews. Anyone had experience with them? Which do you prefer? I really like the customizability of the X6, but the Blackwidow is mechanical (are they really that good)?

So which one is better for the money?

x6 is really handy and has a good relaxing backlight but is one of the worst keyboard ever seen looking to the key feedback and precision, stay away from it.

BW is a pleasure for typing, because the blue switches, but is really a pain for gaming, the idiotic fonts are also an huge drawback, stay away from it also.

go for xarmor u9bl-s or wait june for the mionix z60, if you want a mech keyboard, or look elsewhere for a rubberdome keyboard. The ms/razer reclusa is a bit bulky, is out of production but is really a good keyboard.

You might want to consider the Sidewinder X4, I've heard nothing but good things about it whereas I'm pretty sure the X6 has had its share of problems.

those are both nearly twice the cost of the OP's budget

the xarmor U9 might fit @ $79.95 but its shipping costs might kill it: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/XArmor-U9-Cherry-mechanical-keybord/dp/B004S86PBS"]Amazon.com: XArmor U9 Cherry MX brown mechanical keybord: Electronics[/ame]

mechanical keys are great but they can turn into an expensive habit/addiction tongue.gif

I's not twice, but is a lot more. BTW the expense is worth if one wants BL + mechanical.

For the 80 budget one can get BL or Mechanical.

I have a sidewinder x6 and I find nothing wrong with it. Right now I am just using the extra keys to start up programs. However I find the keys responsive, red backlight is cool. It lacks some features such as a built in usb port and lcd screen like premium gaming keyboards but for less than 40$ its pretty good. I have never tried the Blackwidow so I cannot speak for it.

I sold the reclusa for it, because its nice features volume knob, detachable numpad, correct backlight, a lot of handy shortcut keys like the calc one, and so on...

Indeed they are perfect, its just the keys that are worst than the ones of a 5$ keyboard.

If you haven't noticed it you must have never touched a decent keyboard to look the difference.

Likely solding the reclusa for the x6 was the stupidest choice i made in 29 years of IT involvement.

Because you might get caught up in trying every different switch you can get your hands on tongue.gif

I purchased a Steelseries 6Gv2 (cherry black mechanical keys) for a great deal @ $60 with a 40% off coupon last year and it's vastly different and enjoyable experience only lead me into spending over $500 in the following months on couple different mechanical boards with different switch types as well as replacement keys

I'm not say the same is guaranteed to happen to you but I know more friends have fallen down the same path than not, ignorance could very well be bliss wink.gif

Maybe its different in Italy but the Mionix board is supposed to be $150 over here, and that's before any potential tax or shipping, which could easily bump it to $160 or higher, which is twice the OP's $80 budget (which for all we know is an absolute limit). Besides, I said nearly twice, not twice exactly or more than twice. Nearly.

Don't count me, because i bought the keyboard in the US, so I spent a great amount of money in shipement and import fees, while the BW is sold directly in Europe

But the Xarmor U9BL is sold for 129$, and was discounted further on the april first offer, the BW is sold for 79 $, if I'm not wrong.

The U9BL-s costs 6 more dollars.

The mionix is supposedly a good product but is still untested and we have to see the real street price.

The steelseries you suggested is a nice product with a good key layout, I donàt like a lot the black switches, but they are surely well suited for gaming.
