Advice on GPU upgrade needed (Currently stuck on 9800GT)...

I used to own a rig with a Sapphire 5850 toxic till I hit a "finical speed bump" you could say (a.k.a college). Come Fall however, ( cough cough black Friday) I bit the bullet and built the rig stated bellow.

As you notice, I just stuck in some leftover parts with regard to the GPU & the HD. I really want to upgrade the GPU. Heck, even windows index gathers that it's bottlenecking my system pretty bad. However, I don't want to dish out $320 like I did on the 5850.... My budget is a max of $250 at this time (at least I tell myself that lol!).

I've looked at the Evga GTX250Ti and it's tempting to get the "new best" but I've noticed that the 5850 still holds out well for gaming purposes. The main GPU I've been looking at is this card specifically:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102932

Other cards I'm looking at:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127510

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127510

The 2 negative things about the 5850 card is that it has no warranty and it's a Sapphire version I haven't seen before with little reviews. I'm guessing it's the "liquidation version."

Anyways, my overall plan is to go for the best single GPU I can get for $250 or less that yields the max frames at 1680 X 1050 resolution. I don't plan to sli or xfire although, my mobo can do either should I choose to do so in the future.

Opinions would be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read all this.

Computer currently using:

Case: Cooler Master Scout
Mobo: ASUS P7P55D-E Pro (P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0)
Ram: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600mhz (6-8-6-24)
CPU: i5-760 (stock 2.8GHz)
CPU Cooler: Scythe SCMG-2100 version B
GPU: XFX 9800GT
HD: 750GB WD Black Edition
Sound Card: Creative X-Fi Titanium

Edit:

Forgot to add I also found this card note, it's recertified.

I've heard good things about the GTX 4xx series but I think I would need something a little more powerful then the se version. I own Crysis, BFBC2, Command & Conquer 2 ect. and some other games that I'm currently unable to run on max settings. I want max settings lol!

Thanks anyways for the advice though.

The GTS250 is a revamp of the GTX9800+ not much of a upgrade. The 5850 right now is a good deal at the egg. If you go Nvidia try not to ggo below the 460.

Get a 560 ti

GTX 560 or HD6950 for $250

GTX 470 if you can find one for $200

These cards should be more than enough for what you need.

If you want best value for money, I really recommend checking the for sale section for second hand cards. Most sellers have no problems assisting with warranty/RMA should something happen.

I see 5870 going for 225. Camp it out until you find a deal you like, once in a while there are some steals.

Looking at this list of Graphics ranks and your budget, the best card would be a GTX 560 Ti, but if you can go up little bit, a Radeon 6950 2GB reference model can be unlocked to a 6970.

ASUS GTX560 DirectCU II Free Shipping $240 after rebate

HIS Radeon HD 6950 2GB Free Shipping $254.99 after rebate

The 5850 is still a very good card, but the 2GB 6950 is better (and more expensive). At 1680 X 1050 however, you don't need 2GB and could find a 6950 with 1GB cheaper (like this HIS). Even though the 1 GB won't unlock, you make up much of the performance difference between the 6970 and the 6950 with overclocking.

Thanks guys for the recommendations, I pretty much went all out on my budget, I got the Evga GTX560Ti. It'll pay off in the end though ($30 MIR).

Edit: Forgot to add that I'll probably still use the 9800GT for physx. I just have to figure out if my mobo can do that.
