[Build Log] My first build! Zero Point. - Page 2

I'm always the voice of reason on people's PC builds and upgrades so I feel obligated to say: DO NOT RAID0 your system drive before you have a separate data (backup) drive. RAID0 effectively doubles your performance, but it also doubles your likelihood of a drive failing, halving your reliability.

Do yourself a favor and do it right. Either go straight to the SSD and use your 500GB drive as a data drive, or buy 2 more HDDs and make one Data and RAID0 the other two.

Build does look good for a first time though. Very good choice of hardware as well. You definitely did your research. The only thing I would've changed is use a modular power supply in the future as it makes things look much cleaner inside.

Thanks for the comments, Josh!

From what I understand, RAID0 increases performance per drive you add (with dimishing returns). I will definitely get the SSD before adding the second HDD.

Once I get my fan controller, I'm going to disassemble the case and reroute the cables. I put this build together rather quickly, so taking the time to route cables behind the motherboard tray will go a long way as far as cable management is concerned. I also like the looks of NZXT's individually sleeved cables. I think I'll purchase at least the 24-pin ATX power cable to give the inside a better look. I do agree that modular would look better, but when you're on a budget, you get more (cables) for your money! (yay me~ lol)

Thank you for taking the time to look at my build!

Nice job on the build, a little recommendation, what camera do you use?

Try something out for me...

set the camera to P (program)
turn the flash off, set it on something if you dont have a tripod and set the auto timer to take a picture.

Make sure the computer has a good amount of light on it, it doesnt matter if it doest because the camera will adjust the exposure to what ever it needs.. give that a shot for a couple of pictures and see if the pictures look cooler?

if it does... you just learned the basics of taking computer pictures. The one main thing you want to get rid of is the flash. your composure is decent already.

just a little tip to make a nice build look better

Thanks, fshizl! I tried your suggestions, and took a few pics. Here's one I just uploaded a few minutes ago.

Also note, I took out the smaller 2.5" drive bay, and the extra USB 3.0 ports provided by the onboard header. I already have 4 of them that I don't use, why add another visible cable for 6? And when I add a SSD I'll place it in the 2.5 to 3.5 drive rail adapter.

Thanks for the photo tips man. Not a lot of potential with my Canon Point and Shoot, but at least it looks good!

Keep the feedback comin'! Second graphics card coming soon!

Phase 3 of my build is about to begin! I'm adding a second 500GB HDD for RAID0 and a second NVIDIA GTX 460! Can't wait for them to arrive, coming via 2-day air!

Doing a lot of reading to learn in an attempt to build a system for the first time and a lot of what I'm planning is very similar to what you've already done.

Hoping my system turns out to be even half as nicely done as yours - looks amazing!

I'm planning on doing the same set up with my system fans that you did.
Would you be able to provide some detail as to how you first connected the fan wiring before you added the fan controller?

Thanks in advance.

I'm doing almost the same too, I bet we're some of many new Sandy Bridge newcomers! This log will no doubt help me out heaps when all my new gear starts arriving at the door. I'm very grateful!

Hey guys sorry I didn't see your posts as I have started a new job and have been working long and late hours as of late. I'll give you some detail of the fan controller tomorrow afternoon, Static99. Thanks L Lawliet (lol death note) for the compliment!

Check out the Original Post, there is an updated picture of some peripherals (Razer Keyboard, Mouse, Mouse Pad, and a new Desk to go along with the rest of the PC).

Thank you for everyone's support! This Project is still on schedule as there is no schedule! This project will never end for me!
