They don't have any reason to upgrade, so it makes sense to just stick with what they know. It's not as if they're power users.

In my case, I'll stick with Windows XP until I get a new system. Then I'll likely move onto Windows 7, or Windows 8, or maybe even Windows Pi*3 depending on how long this system lasts. I have no reason to upgrade, currently, as it'd cost me a whole lot more in time to do as much than it's worth.
There are severe security reasons to use a new OS. Using such an old OS and browsing today's internet is an extremely bad idea. They can't even use a modern browser. There probably stuck on IE 5.

This just official support...machines running XP are not going to power off next year never to return. It just means no more Windows updates for it. After ten years or so all the major security flaws have been pretty well sealed over. Though things as simple as a new version of flash player can open a new one, they still will be an unlikely source of a threat. Heck, I bet alot of XP users are months, if not years, behind on updates anyway.

If I could squeeze 64bit capability into Windows 2000...I'd run that on every machine I own. On XP and Vista I would always set everything to classic and set appearance for best performance so that I could at least pretend that I was using Windows 2000. I only went to XP when I got my first dual core Since XP handled a multi-core CPU better. I only went to Vista because XP64 had horible driver support. I now use 7 because...I really don't know why. I think originally it was for DX11, but I think I've played two games that actually use it.

you can still use it for whatever you need.....just because support ends, doesn't mean that all the PCs still using it are gonna shut down.....and yea they should release SP4 so it has a dignified retirement......Ultimate 7's support ends 2015?.....what the hell? ....6 years only?.....the most expensive version.......also as long as console ported DX9 games keep coming, a cheap $50 os will alway be an option

What is the difference between Ultimate and Pro anyway? I think I remember it only had bit-locker added to it...which is dumb since only the business world would really want that, but the Professional edition is marketed towards the corporate world.

aw man!
im not upgrading my ghetto rig anytime soon tho. winXP is the only OS that can run some of my vintage games well and is the only OS that it can run properly. its got 512MB RAM and a 2.4Ghz A64 with a AGP X1600. theres no way in hell it can run vista (or win7) without uber lag or driver issues.
well its 2015. maybe it will be dead by then, its on its last leg anyway :/

my friend lent me his laptop with Windows 7 Home and it was full with malware. Malwarebyte had a lot of work to do.

he visited some quality sites probably without thinking twice. so no matter the OS, it is up to the user to use the computer safely.

What else is a pagefile for but to use?

That's a similar complaint to those who buy 8GB of ram and complain that Windows is using 2GB of it. So what? That's what it is THERE for! If Windows didn't use that much ram, OS operations would be slower. I like Windows to take up as much ram as it wants for that reason.

Anyway, there is no flaw in having PF usage of 1.43GB.
