My new i7 960.... OVERCLOCKING :)

So... I'm not sure why, but today I bought an i7 960 from Newegg for $289.

I guess I was bored with overclocking my 920, which I can't get stable at anything higher than 4.40GHz or so.

Realistically, on my X58 Classified.. do you think a 960 will give more OC headroom? Or maybe just more stability at less voltage, even if the max clocks aren't that high? MY CPU never really gets that hot... always below 70.

TOTAL impulse buy... so help me justify it

Lol, you can't. Sorry, I doubt you'll get a better OC on that than you would had you pushed your 920.

You would have to try tho, sorry we can't really tell . Honestly if you want to OC for fun, you should just get the 2500k or 2600k.

Not really. It'll give you a higher multiplier, but if you get higher than 4.4 on it, I'll be surprised. It's the exact same architecture.

Boo, you guys suck

Theoretically though, shouldn't i be able to hit the same clock speed with a lower BCLK? That's gotta count for something no?

Bah I guess if it doesn't really OC well I'll just sell it.

Give it a shot, it might be better, but who knows. I don't think it's money well spent, but thats another story. Also, whats with the ram listed so slow in sig? Since you say the cpu is running 4.4ghz stable, I'd hope the ram is a bit higher?

Impulse buys = love/hate relationship.

Good luck on the oc.

should return it unopened and get full refund. Then get 2500k and a cheap p67 board. It won't be as fun/tiring but it will be a more value choice

Oh at 4.4 that ram runs much faster, that's the speed at 4GHz and the stock 8x multi.

Bah I think I'm just going to go for it, don't feel like getting a whole new board and stuff when I JUST re-did my loop.
