My PSU died!

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, just registered on here as I'm looking for a little advice, this is my system:

250 GB SATA-II HDD UDMA 300 7200 8MB
Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) XMS3 1333MHz (DDR3)
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BIT
ATI Radeon HD 5870 - 1 GB - 2xDVI/HDMI
Corsair Hydro Series H50
10 X USB 2.0 Ports
Intel Core i7 950 (4 x 3.06GHz) 8 MB 4.8GT/s
OCZ 700W Stealth XStream
Samsung (SH-D162D) 16x DVD-ROM
ANTEC Nine Hundred Case
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R (Intel X58)

This evening I noticed and odd burning smell and by the time I realized it was my PC it was already too late, it had cut out and smoke was coming out of the PSU, it's just over a year old now I think and I've had no problems with it before, oddly the warranty ran out last month... I need to buy a new PSU but I'm not sure which to get, I don't really want to buy the same brand/model as the one that blew out. I'm hoping it hasn't damaged any of the hardware.

Can anyone give me any ideas as to why it's happened and recommend a reliable PSU?

Thanks x

Corsair TX650V2, it's awesome.

If you want modular, go for the Antec truepower new 750w

I'd suggest you this one (Link). It's very reliable and i'm sure you will be happy with it. It'd be a future proof as well in case you want to upgrade your rig in the future. You might have to look for it @ your place tho, maybe from an UK retailer?
OCZ Stealth XStreme serie isn't good and bad PSUs just die from time to time.

usually if its just the PSU it shouldn't have damaged anything else. but you need to be 100% sure it was the psu and not something else. look for charring or smoke damage on your motherboard. if none is found, and if PSU is out of warranty, open it up and look at it to be sure.

If it is PSU, then i would go with a Corsair supply, as they are one of the best there is ;D

I would probably check out the HX and AX series then.

Your computer could run on a quality 400-450W. What's your budget, and do you plan to go Crossfire any time soon?
