Thats your problem. My drives are pretty quiet. RE4s are quiet too. Built a few servers with them, one of them had 60 of the drives in it. Damn fans would kill your ears but the drives were quiet lol

With two Caviar Black 1T (WD1002FAEX), the seeking noise is loud and the vibration is serious. I think if you attach them firmly to case, the problem can't be eliminated. As far as I know, one should use elastic suspension method to eliminate vibration. As for seeking noise, that depend on luck. I will try 640G version tomorrow, see what happens.

The blacks were pretty quite. No vibration noise, so rubber won't help. They are pretty noisy when active. clickty...clickty....clack. Nothing you can't deal with. The Samsung F3's was a whole differant noise. A constant, very low, vibration about one second apart....vroom...vroom...vroom. It was maddening. To bad, they're really great drives otherwise. You won't even hear it with a noisier case, but if your case is quite or silent....ugh!
The WD Re4's are "silent" No vibration noise at all and you have to put your ear right up to them to hear them operate.

WD Black drives fail in raid0 TLER.

Go for server grade RE drives.

TLER gives the drives time to repair itself before dropping it out of the array in a RAID setup. That's why you want TLER for a RAID array. You may never have a problem with the Blacks in RAID, but if one "hiccups" just once, it gets tossed out right away. There goes your RAID0 setup. The Re4 will repair itself and you'll never know what happened, or it may give an error warning for that drive, but the array will still work.

I have a screwless mounting case just like his and I never hear my HDD's vibrate.

Somehow I'm amazed when people talk about loud HDD's... Supposedly the Samsungs are loud, but I've never been able to hear any HDD over the loud fans in my case, nor would I expect to unless something were wrong with them.
