Sidenote: Correct me if i'm wrong though, I always thought that ONLY the PAID version wrote (1) ones and the FREE version wrote (0) zeros.
I thought I read somewhere on their website that it was 1's, but I don't know if it makes a difference.

haha not if you plan to reuse it

Best way to destroy a HDD... sand both sides of the platter. None of this paying money and industries sending it off to companies to destroy it for you. All they do is use a big press and destroy the drive but if someone really wanted they could try to get small lil pieces off. (that's how it used to be done anyhow) Sanding it tho, NEVER recoverable. Ever. EVER.

Any how, I used DBan and it worked fine. Seems to have anyways haha, I never tried to recover the data but the main reason I wanted it was to completely erase a client's data and now I'm using the drive myself. It was also crawling with some crazy infections, so now those are gone for good.

Thanks for all the input guys!

KillDisk offers a paid commercial product as well, which supports more advanced erase algorithms like DoD 5220M 3/7 pass, Gutmann, etc; the free version only does a single write of zeroes. DBAN on the other hand is a free open-source tool that implements many algorithms out of the box.
