Wonder? Pagefile? - Page 2

Should the pagefile be placed on SSDs?
Yes. Most pagefile operations are small random reads or larger sequential writes, both of which are types of operations that SSDs handle well.
In looking at telemetry data from thousands of traces and focusing on pagefile reads and writes, we find that:

Pagefile.sys reads outnumber pagefile.sys writes by about 40 to 1,

Pagefile.sys read sizes are typically quite small, with 67% less than or equal to 4 KB, and 88% less than 16 KB.

Pagefile.sys writes are relatively large, with 62% greater than or equal to 128 KB and 45% being exactly 1 MB in size.

In fact, given typical pagefile reference patterns and the favorable performance characteristics SSDs have on those patterns, there are few files better than the pagefile to place on an SSD.

They will last longer then youll have them for.....even under pressure UNLESS somebody can prove me wrong
not with music it wont help you at all. problem with windows it writes to disk everytime it acess the system or windows folder. The pagefile aint a problem with performance butmore like clutter on the ssd and like above explained unneeded writes

Does the netbook have the ability to install a second hard drive? I know I've seen some laptops that can. On my desktop and my servers I have a small hard drive installed that for the only purpose to hold the page file. On a server it will often give some good performance boosts, but I don't know if it really helps out my gaming rig...but I figure it can't hurt.

I know that pagefile should be used on HDD- but the great battle of pagefile on ssd still rages on....
Im keeping it on all my machines with ssds .....

If only this thing had two drive bays ahahhah could you imagine a 10 inch netbook with two bays....oh man that would be heaven for me...

like i said took ramdisk off and put pagefiles on just ssd now going to see compared to last night performance towards apps (mostly musik apps Abletonlive...)

Having the Paging File on a HDD when your OS drive is a solid state drive is kind of backwards. I mean, why have the Paging File on a slow, mechanical hard drive when it can be on the fast and zippy solid state drive?

chek your codecs if you struggle with performance in audio apps. crappy netburst can even play audio without issues

Anytime

And as the article said there are more reads than writes by 40 to 1, the reads are small, and the writes are big, which means that the page file is very SSD friendly. It won't degrade your SSD. I wouldn't use the SDHC for anything system related, or audio related. Maybe keep your VSTs there or something, but not your ableton library.

Audio recording apps (i.e. ableton live) don't work that way. When used properly they completely bypass the stock windows sound drivers, which have terrible latency.

Ya its ok though because my onboard audio is dead(asking others on another forum about it) so have a turtlebeach card (which is alot nicer actually then onboard)
thanks again
the sdhc will like you said have all the vsts and some premade stuff on it
im not worrying about space on ssd( most people do because its so precious) not to me use it thats why they have the space right...

Thanks again for all the help
