Installing SSD, several questions - Page 7

Thread Starter
To reduce troubleshooting time I rebooted after set-up (something which I had never done before, I went into the desktop, did the updates etc THEN rebooted) and it's fine. So it must have been a driver issue. I will now install the AMD Catalyst drivers FIRST. I will keep rebooting with every driver I install.

Hehe Well, you could just install AMD drivers in safe mode I think. It would automatically replace the ones you downloaded via Windows Update. What I usually do when reinstalling Windows, I first go to Windows Update and right-click all entries that say "driver" and then "Hide update". So that I wouldn't accidently install them later.

Yes, that is a good thing to do. Then if there is any problem, you will know what went wrong and with which driver.

Well then, I've fallen at the first hurdle.

Installed the AMD Catalyst drivers, rebooted and we have the exact same problem as before.

Rolled back the drivers and boom, we are back in business. That's not good is it! Official drivers malfunctioning!

I have never ever had this problem before. I will try with an older driver, the 10.x revisions.

If this doesn't work then I'm stuffed, generic driver just won't do.

I am out of ideas to be honest. You haven't done 3rd Windows install yet? I was pretty sure official driver from AMD would fix the problem.

Yes this was on the third Windows installation.

Fresh Windows installed first time.
Rebooted, no issues.
Installed ONLY AMD 11.3 driver
Rebooted, bam. Issue.

No luck with previous drivers either. So unless anyone has any ideas, it's time to call my OEM.

So to recap.

FIRST

SSD installed with SATA 3 PCI-E card.
Driver issues & no TRIM support.
Rebooted into the "blank screen" issue.
Removed card.

SECOND
Windows installed with SSD now connected via motherboard's SATA 2.
Installed Winodws Updates, included display drivers.
Rebooted into "blank screen" issue.
Safe mode booted fine.
Formatted.

THIRD

Windows installed on SSD with SATA 2 connection.
Rebooted, no problems.
Installed ONLY latest (11.3) AMD Catalyst Driver.
Rebooted into "blank screen" issue.
Booted into Safe Mode fine, rolled back drivers.
Rebooted fine.
Installed older 10.11 AMD Catalyst Driver.
Rebooted into "blank screen" issue.

Change the PCI-EX port for the Graphics Card. Go in BIOS and tell it to use PCIEX -2 as the main video output. I know that mobo very well, I have it ... nothing but problems ...

What BIOS are you using?

What about your chipset drivers? Those are the first drivers I install, then my video drivers.
