This board has amazed me from the time that I opened the box about 5 hours ago. I got an X2 560 with it as well, which it unlocked & overclocked with ease. Even though it features only an SB7120 south bridge, gigabyte have included core unlocking in the BIOS, which is not a standard feature of the SB710. this is great stuff for such a cheapie.

It then continued to push it to 4Ghz with ease and crank the IMC up to 2750Mhz without much issue. (although NB multi's above 13 were broken)

YES, the gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2 featuring a beefy () 3+1 phase VRM setup. this was plenty to handle the quad at 4Ghz+

For $49.99 after MIR on newegg, this board is great for any cheaper system that requires a little bit of Overclockin!
Nothing to rave about, sorry. You can get an AsRock M3A770DE for the same price, and that's a MUCH better board, including power phase design.

I wouldn't want to run a 24/7 1.44V Phenom II X4 on a 3+1 phase board. Seriously, dial it down to 3.6GHz and 1.4.

I was wondering, what voltages are u running on those ram to achieve the ram clocks and timings? Just wanting to get an idea of how much voltage I might need to push to overclock my ram a bit

1) Asrock board has cheaper chokes & caps on the VRM's. Half the caps per phase, and still only one NB phase with 2 fets instead of 3.
2) its $10 more expensive
3) I got this board for $10
4) I'll just stick to realistic applications, instead of wasting time raping my board/CPU with prime95

Was runnin em at like 1.7v, but at that voltage and those timings they can do 1800 easy. Was running it cas 7 cause the board wont set cas 6 AT ALL.

I am assuming your RAM is different than mine, but 1.7v should get you where you want.

Maybe I simply don't care to update my specs, you know those x2s were MEAN ocers once you pushed 1.4v into them though! It's actually an x2 555 BE although, but that still tells nothing about how many cores I'm running.

Guys, it's just a gloat thread. I pretty much agreed in the second post and showed my own example and I was wrong. The thread went from "Look at my OC with this crappy VRM" to "I know everything about VRM and debate every post"

Yeah... except for the fact that a lot of people are reporting fried VRMs with that Gigabyte but not with the AsRock... I wonder why.

If you got it for $10, fine. At $60, it's junk.

its surviving a DICE session and 1.7v so I dont see a problem with it...but not all user experiences are the same

It's going to blow eventually, and I will be sitting back eating my popcorn and laughing profoundly when this happens

Gigabyte 3+1s are usually low end and have known problems, including this mobo. You got the board brand new, most of the time such parts degrade over time; in fact according to one member it can be seen visibly, the look of the MOSFET surrounding area changes a bit (though this was on an MSI board). Let's see what happens when you run Prime95 on it

There is always the possibility you take out something else with it i.e. PSU, CPU, RAM... I won't be blamed here, this was all your idea. The board is not even rated above 95W TDP. No warranty honouring here from anyone.

I at least recommend you put something like "Kids, do not try this at home" in thread title
