Help with Half Life 2 Ep1...

Thread Starter
I won a copy of Half Life 2: Episode 1 yesterday ( thanks CarlosSpicyWeiner) and every time I try to launch a game it get "hl2.exe has stopped working". I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. Verify game files, turn off in game steam community, set dx level commands, adjust settings in nvidia control panel, and some other things I'm forgetting right now. All my drivers are up to date and the only programs I run in the background are MSI Afterburner and MSE. I also tried launching a game after turning off both MSE and AB but no luck. Has anyone else got this before and if so how did you fix it? I've googled the problem and have yet to find anything that works.

Just a thought, seeing as you already did all the things I'd usually suggest, but how about running it in administrator mode? Just find it in your Steam folder.

Stupid quetion, but do you own HL2 also? Only other thing I would try is fresh installs of HL2 and Ep1.

Suggests that your antivirus can also get in the way.

I was running it in admin mode. I dont know why but for some reason now its not crashing. I'd still like to know what was causing it though. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions.
