A Beginning of a PC Enthusiast

Thread Starter
It is almost time for my first build. I am graduating high school soon and will finally have some money to begin a hobby, "PC Enthusiasm".

I have come here to ask the seasoned professionals to revise my component choices and to give suggestions.

The computer will be used for gaming, coding (I am going into computer science at Auburn University), web surfing. You know... typical stuff.

CPU: i5 2500k. No brainer really.
CPU Cooler: Noctua D14 (Water cooling is too complex/expensive)

GPU: I am planning on starting with one 6870 because I will be using an old 1920x1080 viewsonic for a while. Then I plan to buy (hopefully) a u2711 and a second 6870 as upgrades.

Motherboard: Right now I have my eyes on the P8P67 PRO but Z68 mobos will most likely be out when I order.

Case: Unsure! I don't want a case that looks tacky, or flashy. I like cases that look like the Antec 300 (but better feature wise), Corsair's Obsidians, most lian li cases. Cases that are boxxy and classy are more suitable to my tastes. The case also needs to be cable management friendly. I have never built a computer and want my case to be as clean as I often see on OCN.

RAM: I would like to hear suggestions. I want 8 gigs though.

PSU: uhm... I know I want a 750watt (for crossfire and overclocking) and modular.

HDD: I hear Spinpoint F3s are the best. I will probably get 1tb.

SSD: Maaaaaybe a 64gb for OS.

I need a mouse and a keyboard too. A mechanical keyboard.

Thanks for any help you all. I really love how helpful the OCN community is and I am anxious to read response.

PSU: Corsair AX750
RAM: A well known brand, Corsair, Kingston, Gskill etc. C9 timings, then you can then OC them!
Case: Corsair 650D
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68X-UD5
EDIT:GPU:GTX 560Ti (MSI, ASUS, GIGABYTE)
Hope that helps man!

Need anything else, just ask!

I agree with most of what's here.

If you want another case to consider here's some. Both have top of the line cable management inside.

I like this. If you're looking for boxy/classy lian-li's fit the bill, but they're pricey. Have you checked out the nzxt phantom? Very nice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-067-_-Product

They come in different colors as well.

Get a HAF X or HAF 932. Great cases, plenty of air flow, and plenty of room for components and cable management. I would recommend them to anyone and they have tons of potential for modding.

That isn't really what the OP is asking for. You just recommended what you have, not fitting what style guidelines he's wanting.

This was a great post. I am open to everything to you posted. Also, that case fits all my needs if I can justify the price.

I agree with what has been posted for the most part. I like the Fractal Design, but they are less mainstream. Can anyone vouch for their quality?

The replies are flooding in. I love it.

EDIT: I hate NZXT.
