Reset Mac Ibook G4

Thread Starter
So my buddy came to me asking for help. He got a Mac Ibook g4 that was previously owned. When he tries to go to the software update, it asks for Administrator password. I've tried admin and administrator with no luck, I'm pretty sure its already been set by a previous owner. Is there a way I can reset this? I don't think he has the discs either. Thanks!

Just ask the previous owner for the password?

Creating a new Admin on Mac Os X:
Here's how to reset your OS X password without an OS X CD.
the Working solution for me was to create a new admin
you can create new admin like this by deleting a specific file.

You need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:

1. Reboot
2. Hold apple key + s key down after you hear the chime. (command + s on newer Macs)
3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now

I have done this before on my macbook 2009 white, and it works!

Had this exact same problem with the exact same mac.

You need either the original disks for the version of OS you are running or you can download them and burn them as like people who run hackintosh do.
